About the role
Who You Are
As our new Engineer for Paint Process, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and/or implementing state-of-the art robotic painting solutions for general industry, heavy truck, and automotive tier suppliers. The responsibilities for this position include a combination of robot program design, robot programming, and spray application engineering. You will work with members of the Auto Component and Industrial Paint (ACP) group on projects involving the implementation of paint robot solutions at end-user facilities.
You must be a customer-focused problem-solver who enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams and has experience with paint process, paint robot programming, and ideally, FANUC America paint robots.
How It’s Done
- Design and implement the robot processes and spray application parameters for installation in the end-user facility
- Install, launch, and optimize programs at customer sites
- Develop robot programs offline using ROBOGUIDE, mainly PaintPRO
- Perform process system verification testing during modular build
- Use of offline simulation tools for system design or advanced robot programming
- Perform spray testing in the laboratory to determine optimal application settings
- Provide project and customer troubleshooting and support to existing installations
- Perform process engineering analysis and feasibility studies of paint automation equipment to support quoting and sales
- Provide advanced process engineering support for difficult applications and field troubleshooting for identified process and application equipment problems
- Optimize the integration of application equipment, including various applicators and fluid delivery equipment for projects (e.g. optimize color change, ensure proper settings per system verification manual, etc.)
- Ensure equipment is installed and configured optimally during modular builds and field installation
- Recognize and resolve issues in a timely manner as they occur during execution
- Provide training to FAC engineers and customers on application equipment and process
- Provide project support to verify and ensure that application equipment is performing as expected
- Provide recommendations for application equipment improvements to enhance performance and reduce cost of the system
- Record and interpret paint quality data such as film builds, defects, and color/quality
- Manage customer expectations and modes of operation to complete contract scope
What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent relevant experience
- Paint process experience with paint robots
- Experience with paint application & equipment including spray gun and bell applications and/or pumping/fluid delivery equipment
- Experienced in paint robot programming
- Experienced with PaintPRO and/or other offline programming software
- Process knowledgeable and experienced in fluid delivery systems, rotary atomizer (bells) and spray gun applications
What Would Be Even Better
- Master’s Degree in related technical field
- Paint process experience specifically with FANUC America paint robots
- Experience with powder application & equipment including spray gun and bell applications and/or pumping/fluid delivery equipment
- Experienced in paint robot programming specifically with FANUC Robots
- Experience in launching robot systems at customer facilities
