About the role

The primary purpose of the Supervisory Transportation Assistant is to be the general Supervisor of the Transportation Assistants in Beneficiary Travel (BT) in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA) at the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) in the Health Administration Service (HAS).

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major duties and responsibilities include: Independently plan, direct, and manage the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) Beneficiary Travel Program. Manage program operations to identify and define requirements for the use of automated systems, provide training for Beneficiary Travel staff on a variety of transportation management and patient related software such as Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and Veterans Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA). Maintain communication with appropriate local, state, and federal agencies, and private interests. Is the first line response to concerns, complaints, Veteran and Congressional inquiries. Provide direct supervision to 12 Beneficiary Travel employees (GS-5/6/7). Provide daily supervision and guidance. Establish guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly articulated and measurable through the formal employee performance management system. Survey and evaluate transportation program operations to access compliance with applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and sound management practices for Beneficiary Travel compliance. Must be familiar with timekeeping procedures, both manual and electronic and pay regulations for Title 5 employees. Initiate nondiscrimination and affirmative action for the area under supervision in the following ways: (1) promotion of employees and recruitment of applicants; (2) fair treatment of employees; (3) encouragement and recognition of employee achievements; (4) career development. Provide direct on-the-job training for employees, broaden employee training, and provide backup skills by cross training. Exercise supervisory authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised. Establish and maintain knowledge of various groups and organizations, such as stakeholders, other hospital, public health officials and organizations, volunteer work groups, and the community at large. Consistently communicate and treat customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Establish criteria to measure and/or predict the attainment of program or organizational goals and objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.
