Medical Secretary

We are seeking a friendly, organized, and detail-oriented Medical Secretary to provide clerical, scheduling, registration, and customer service support in a busy medical practice. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, using technology, and being part of a collaborative healthcare team.
What You'll Do

Welcome and assist patients, families, physicians, staff, and visitors with professionalism and courtesy.

Answer incoming calls, take messages, provide information, and coordinate patient needs.

Schedule appointments and complete accurate patient registration.

Maintain and update patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Verify insurance eligibility and ensure referrals and authorizations are in place.

Collect co-pays and other payments and explain office financial policies as needed.

Process routine medical record and release-of-information requests.

Enter and maintain accurate demographic, referral, diagnosis, and order information.

Support pre-visit planning and patient-centered medical home workflows.

Help patients understand how to access their care team and services.

Maintain confidentiality and follow all applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.

Participate in EMR and practice workflow training to maintain proficiency.

Perform other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For
Required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

At least 1 year of experience in an office, banking, retail, or other professional setting with direct customer interaction.

Strong computer skills and ability to learn electronic systems.

Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred:
-
Previous medical office or hospital experience.
-
Medical terminology coursework.
-
Experience with customer relations in a healthcare setting.

Completion of a related medical practice training program.

Experience with medical coding procedures.
