Project Engineering Team Lead

Job Overview:

The Lead Project Engineer's normal involvement is the day-to-day interaction and leadership of the project engineers in the relevant district tasked with designing and implementing systems to meet the customer’s expectations. The Lead PE will report to the local Regional Manager and/or District Manager. The Lead PE is responsible for understanding and controlling our team’s risk from technical, quality and product standpoints. The Lead PE ensures his/her team works collaboratively with the FAEs, suppliers and subcontractors and plays a key role in ensuring we are delivering a system as agreed to in the Functional Specifications and Statements of Work. Ensuring system functionality as per system design and keeping projects within budget and schedule are key elements of a successful project. The success of the Lead PE will depend largely on his/her leadership, communications ability, technical knowledge, performance, and capability to manage others and the details of multiple projects; technical and problem-solving skills are of high importance.

In addition, all large system proposals with integration (>$1M or with complex automation, if not already reviewed) will require review and sign-off by the Lead PE prior to sending to the customer. The Lead PE will also assist with supervising major drawing & application reviews (post-PO) and review of installation drawings prior to start of installation for PE I & II personnel in the district.

Finally, the Lead PE will be required to assist with and lead portions of new PE training as we bring new project engineers on board. This would include items such as, but not limited to, drawing standard reviews, drawing & pricing exercises, automation vendor training, and ongoing support / assistance through the training program.Job Functions:

•  Lead, guide, and mentor newer team members to enhance their abilities
• Conduct periodic one-on-one meetings and annual evaluations. Work with team members to create and implement developmental goals.
• Proactively identify and address concerns, feedback, and workload bandwidth of team members. Appropriately determine course of action to resolve any issues or concerns and keep management abreast of all relevant matters.
• Demonstrate consistently the ability to work independently or with limited supervision to develop creative and cost-effective system concepts utilizing a clear understanding of material handling application principles and equipment capabilities
• Utilize AutoCAD programs to create material handling system designs and drawings. Assist with all other general design responsibilities.
• Conduct all training and on-boarding activities for new team members. Organize and execute the training program for all new PE’s.
• Demonstrate and communicate the vision and core values of Bastian Solutions to ensure team’s understanding and engagement.
• Work closely with Senior PEs, PEs, Site PE’s and additional coworkers within the team environment to concurrently support engineering efforts for multiple medium to large projects and quotations
• Work with other departments within Bastian Solutions to understand their processes, share feedback between teams, and improve cross functional teamwork.
• Follow and comply with Engineering Department processes
• Drive continuous improvement activities and department goals. Provide input into standards, process, and team development objectives
• Prioritize team and work responsibilities and complete required tasks in a timely manner
• Support project execution that results in: right-to-site, on-time delivery, responsible budget management, and a very happy customer
• Create and lead engineering team meetings
• Timely resolve project issues and assure customer satisfaction
• Review and approval of team time sheets, expense reports, and time off requests.
• Support Recruiting Job Fairs, etc., when applicable
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and through the written word
• Maintain consistent positive and enthusiastic attitude
• All job duties as assigned.

Travel Requirements:

• 10% overnight travel (Travel expenses paid by Bastian Solutions)

Preferred Skills and Required Qualifications :

• Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent
• Minimum 2-4 years of material handling experience
• Effective leadership and communication skills
• Solid understanding of material handling applications
• Conflict resolution skills
• Strong inclination to proactivity
• Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in demanding situations
• Understand design standards and application guides for use when developing system designs and implementing projects
• General understanding of financials and budgets
• Computer literacy with MS Office products

• An understanding of the operation of material handling systems including controls and software interface principles
