About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with the St Paul District, Engineering and Construction Division.

In this position, the incumbent will perform duties independently, works under the general supervision of the Geotechnical and Geology Section Chief with considerable freedom to select appropriate methods and procedures to accomplish assigned work.

Serve as a Geologist responsible for planning, performing, monitoring, and reviewing a wide range of geological investigations and analyses in support of the Districts’ design and construction programs.

Schedule contract drill crews performing investigations for potential source of filter stone, erosion protection stone, stone for breakwaters, and concrete construction materials.

Perform field investigations, plan geological subsurface explorations, conduct studies relative to geological problems; and prepare and negotiate contracts for subsurface exploration.

Plan, organize, coordinate, schedule, and reviews work as one of a team providing geologic expertise in support of District design, construction, and operation activities.

Review completed work of junior team members to assure proper coordination for general adequacy of decisions, conclusions, and recommendations, and for timely completion.

Determine need for and suggests additional studies or desirable modifications to improve engineering product, decrease costs, or to achieve a more effective benefit/cost ratio.

Advise Section Chief of any potential schedule delays or budget problems.
