Primary Purpose

Develops and executes comprehensive reporting strategies that support organizational transparency and governance. Advise executives on reporting implications of strategic decisions and champions adoption of best practices. Leads external financial reporting, SEC filings, accounting policy application, and disclosure governance for a large, regulated energy company. Partners closely with executive finance leadership, controllers, legal, tax, investor relations, business-unit finance teams, and external auditors. Operates in a complex environment involving regulatory oversight, strategic transactions, technical accounting matters, internal controls, and public company reporting requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate quarterly and annual SEC reporting activities, including preparation, review, and consolidation of Form 10-Q, Form 10-K, earnings materials, disclosure checklists, supporting schedules, certifications, and governance approvals across multiple finance and business stakeholders.
  • Manage accounting and disclosure workstreams for complex transactions, regulatory developments, and business initiatives, including technical accounting research, disclosure drafting, control considerations, issue tracking, and coordination with external auditors and subject matter experts.
  • Oversee reporting package development, financial data validation, and reporting system processes using enterprise finance tools and workflows. Support period-end close activities, disclosure controls, management review procedures, and implementation of reporting process improvements.
  • Establishes a comprehensive reporting infrastructure, leads implementation of the reporting strategy through managers, and ensures an appropriate level of awareness of responsibilities.
  • Acts as final point of escalation for intricate reporting issues or obstacles, guiding the team towards successful resolution, and contributing to policy establishment.
  • Drives all financial reporting cycles with relevant and accurate information, including monthly results, statutory reports, short-term forecasts, budgets, and the strategic plan.
  • Oversees the production and quality of the reporting process within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Directs consultation on reporting issues, questions, and problems, and provides guidance to team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

Required:

  • Requires a 4-year degree in a related field.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
  • Master's degree in Accounting or Business Administration is preferred.

Experience

Required:

  • Typically requires 12 years of related experience.

Preferred:

  • Preferred experience with SEC reporting, technical accounting, and disclosure governance for a publicly traded company. Familiarity with Workiva, XBRL, reporting packages, auditor coordination, internal controls, complex transactions, and cross-functional quarter-end and year-end reporting processes

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required:

  • Ability to direct resolution of high-risk or high-impact reporting issues.
  • Ability to oversee complex reporting operations through multiple leadership layers.
  • Ability to represent the financial reporting function at the enterprise level.
  • Knowledge of advanced regulatory, audit, and disclosure considerations.
  • Knowledge of enterprise financial reporting strategy, governance, and operating models.
  • Skill in influencing senior executives and external auditors.
  • Skill in setting functional direction aligned with corporate objectives.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of disclosure governance practices, internal control frameworks, and public company reporting processes. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, collaborate across functions, identify reporting risks, and implement process improvements in a dynamic and deadline-driven environment.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting and disclosure management systems, including Workiva, XBRL, HFM, and data analytics tools. Ability to leverage technology to enhance reporting efficiency, strengthen governance processes, improve data quality, and support informed decision-making.

Licenses and Certifications

Preferred:

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is strongly preferred.
