Senior Optimization Analyst
About the role
Partner with the optimization team in the planning and successful execution of sales and operations planning (S&OP), optimization, and growth strategy for milk optimization. Independently manage smaller subsets of optimization groups and develop skillsets to manage larger optimization groups. The role focuses on end-to-end activities of the optimization group ranging from strategic projects to transactional oversight. Implement S&OP, optimization group strategy, financial performance/benefits, and new opportunities for the optimization group. Execute and support defined strategies through creating and executing models, executing the S&OP process, and sharing of insights across DFA.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of customers, competitors, markets, supply/demand, costs, pricing, etc., to assist in managing the optimization group and developing optimization plans
- Partner with Areas to recommend and implement plans for the continued profitable development of the milk optimization group, incorporating S&OP (metrics like forecast accuracy), optimization models, new business opportunities, capital investments in the facilities, and potential acquisitions
- Continue to develop skillsets of influencing and collaboration
- Develop key leadership skills to lead a cross-functional team associated with optimization groups
- Partner with Areas and optimization management to determine margin improvements through various optimization models
- Build market and risk management knowledge to establish and assist in optimization opportunity identification
- Develop an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of the milk optimization group
- Drive and imbed a customer connectivity culture across the optimization group
- Perform analysis and reporting of local, national and international market conditions, competitive activities and general economic conditions in relationship to the dairy industry
- Lead the refinement of milk supply planning processes including supply planning, scenario planning and long-range capacity planning
- Lead weekly and monthly calls with Area leaders and their teams on milk production analysis, forecasts, and recommendations based on analysis
- Participate in the sales and operations planning process for those areas reliant on milk - accountable for the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of the milk supply plan along with timely communication of deviations to those plans to planning team
- Track and reconcile weekly/monthly metrics versus established targets. Determine root cause for outliers, develop corrective actions for planning improvements
- Develop as a subject matter expert for the optimization group, partnering with Areas and optimization management for key optimization group pillars, including optimization of product mix, assets, cost optimization, market insights and weekly price setting
- Provide weekly/monthly reporting of optimization group including metrics for financial performance, sales attainment, cost analysis, service levels, inventory levels and action plans
- Professionally represent DFA at industry events, industry meetings, governmental events, and public events

- Undergraduate degree (or equivalent combination of experience and education)
- 5 to 8 years of forecasting, planning, logistics, or related experience
- Dairy industry experience with demonstrated track record of success in food/beverage with business development and customer engagement
- Certification and/or License – may be required during course of employment
