Lead Recreation Assistant (Yoga Instructor)
About the role
The Lead Yoga Instructor applies knowledge of adapting yoga practices to individual participants in individual and group classes as appropriate for physical, mental or behavioral wellbeing. The Lead Yoga Instructor collaborates with clinical providers such as Yoga Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and whole health team members in the creation and on-going delivery of yoga program provision at the site.
Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Lead Yoga Instructors report to and work with the supervisor to monitor and make work assignments, provide input on performance and address operational needs. The Lead Yoga Instructor applies knowledge of adapting yoga practices to individual participants in individual and group classes as appropriate for physical, mental or behavioral wellbeing. The Lead Yoga Instructor collaborates with clinical providers such as Yoga Therapists, Recreation Therapists, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and whole health team members in the creation and on-going delivery of yoga program provision at the site. Lead Yoga Instructors develop and maintain the facility schedule of yoga programs and activities. The lead Yoga Instructor is responsible for distributing and balancing workload among employees in accordance with established workflow, ensuring timely accomplishment of the assigned workload and for assessing the status, quality and progress of the work. Lead Yoga Instructors evaluate participant responses, resources and program objectives to recommend changes concerning the effectiveness of ongoing well-being programs. The lead Yoga Instructor identifies and provides resources for participants that promote continued practice at home and in the community. Lead Yoga Instructors develop information and marketing materials on the benefits of yoga, assist with promotional efforts and encourage participation in yoga classes, special events and community programs. The lead Yoga Instructor serves as a facility Yoga Instructor subject matter expert and a liaison between staff and department leadership. Lead Yoga Instructors are responsible for orienting new staff, providing guidance and on the job training, and may be consulted for peer review of competency evaluations. The lead Yoga Instructor may be consulted on supply and equipment needs in accordance with appropriate procedures. The lead Yoga Instructor serves as a mentor and may serve as informal leads to lower-level Yoga Instructors that may include part time, volunteers, contract or fee basis yoga staff. The Yoga Instructor uses appropriate notes in the electronic medical record to document progress, communicates with providers and utilizes appropriate coding and tracking of the services. The Yoga Instructor shall remain up to date with VHA and professional trainings. Required professional meetings must be attended. May be required to travel up to 25% of the time, which would require the incumbent to drive a government owned vehicle to travel for technical or professional training and to support remote healthcare system sites, as needed and/or directed by management.
