JOB OVERVIEW:


Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Crane Maintenance and Repair, the General Manager of Equipment Engineering and Maintenance develops, manages, and implements crane maintenance programs for the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) consistent with the policies and directives of the Authority. Provides engineering and maintenance expertise support to other staff as required. Directs and supervises the maintenance staff.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Identifies, evaluates, and makes recommendations as to resources necessary for maintenance of STS, RTG, RMG, Mobile Harbor Crane equipment and other mobile equipment.
  • Works in close coordination with the maintenance department managers to develop maintenance and best practice programs for all GPA STS, RTG, RMG, MHC, and mobile equipment.
  • Actively participates in the design of new and retrofit of crane and other mobile equipment. Works closely with internal customers to ensure equipment meets the operational needs of the Authority.
  • Works with the Senior Director of Crane Maintenance and Repair to establish, monitor, and control all budget related to cranes and other equipment.
  • Actively participates in weekly business reviews with internal customers, finance, and other GPA departments and staff. Provides mentoring and coaching to maintenance team personnel as needed to support these functions.
  • Leads monthly communications with internal customers to review equipment safety, equipment performance, and recurring and non-recurring equipment deficiencies.
  • Performs monthly communications meetings with team members to review team safety performance as well as overall department performance vs. departmental goals.
  • Works closely with department managers to establish and monitor key performance indicators for the equipment and maintenance labor. Reviews results with the Senior Director of Crane Maintenance and Repair.
  • Works closely with GPA Corporate Safety and the equipment maintenance management team to establish the best safety practices for personnel and equipment and resolve safety related issues and concerns related to cranes and other mobile equipment. Ensures compliance with personnel and equipment safety programs.
  • Prepares monthly cost reports (materials, contractor, overtime, supplies, rental equipment, damage claims), equipment utilization reports, and downtime reports.
  • Performs annual reviews of crane and related lift equipment and makes recommendations for replacement or capital improvements to extend overall lifetime of equipment.
  • Maintains current knowledge of various regulations, laws, OSHA standards, and other related codes, rules and regulations as they relate to port activities in general, and specifically, the maintenance and certification of equipment.
  • Provides supervision, coaching, and training for Department managers and hourly staff.
  • Reviews and approves criteria for equipment selection.
  • Establishes performance metrics for cranes and related lift equipment.
  • Supervises the preparations of specifications for bids for maintenance and equipment service contacts. Prepares detailed information as to services, materials, equipment, etc., as required. Meets with contractors and prospective bidders. Reviews bids submitted for compliance with specifications. Participates in bid opening procedures.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with equipment partners and other key suppliers to maintain GPA’s best in class equipment, world class reliability, and equipment safety.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to work closely with a variety of GPA contacts, such as vendors, engineers, environmental professionals, government agencies, industries and other private groups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels as well as members of the shipping industry and the general public.
  • Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills required.
  • Ability and willingness to climb and work at high elevations required.

Experience

  • Extensive experience with the project management, design, installation, retrofit, and commissioning of crane electrical and mechanical systems and related process control systems Required
  • 10+ years Mechanical and electrical experience with the maintenance and repair of port related or similar equipment Preferred

Education

  • Required Bachelor's Degree
  • Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related Engineering field

Licenses & Certifications

  • TWIC - Transportation Worker Identification Credential Required Upon Hire
  • Driver's License - Valid state driver's license Required Upon Hire
