The Field Service Specialist serves as a subject matter expert, responsible for factory testing, electrical installations, startup / commissioning, balancing, tuning and resolution of technical issues related with Instruments, automation, electricals, controls etc. This position also inspects product quality of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) equipment in the field and at fabricators to ensure product inspections and quality control procedures are performed and conducted as defined in the product specifications; and standards required by our customers/end user are fulfilled. The Field Service Specialist can adequately represent the company at customer/end user sites around the world.

Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Perform Site testing or factory testing to ensure all instruments are installed & working correctly.
  • Advises field erector with proper means and methods to lift and install equipment efficiently and safely. Provides necessary written up installation sequence or pending activities / punch list to finish install.
  • Perform IO Checks, validation of logics and control narrative set up in the plant DCS against project documentation before system starts up.
  • Lead the start-up of the equipment, ensuring the appropriate power, control systems, and process connections are 100% operable.
  • Coordinate with plant personnel to commission the equipment, ensuring all systems are operable, perform balancing and ensure emission reduction targets are being achieved.
  • Oversees equipment installations including leading site crew for turnkey installs if within scope or modifications at customer's facility to ensure full functionality according to specifications and completes start-up and commissioning on all types of Emissions or Combustion systems.
  • Works closely with field service management, project management and engineering personnel on activities concerned with installing equipment, investigating, and resolving customer reports of technical problems with equipment and preventative maintenance.
  • Reviews performance reports and documentation from customers and field representatives and inspects malfunctioning or damaged product to troubleshoot, determine nature and scope of problem as well as corrective actions.
  • Maintains records of performance reports by completing documentation (including work orders for each job, maintenance checklists, etc…)
  • Conducts training on the safe operations of the equipment and demonstrates skills to trainees, including both team members and customers.
  • Documents each trip In a timely manner with a proper / formal field report with back up timesheets, expense reports and customer signatures. Ensures completeness without clerical errors.
  • Support the sales team with inspections of existing equipment, checking for mechanical, electrical, and structural integrity of the system, as well as overall operational effectiveness.
  • Increases CECO awareness of how CECO products and service offerings can benefit their operations.
  • At our supplier factories or within Peerless office (Dallas, TX or Montreal CN/ Houston TX/ Tulsa OK)
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) to ensure the finished product works as designed prior to shipment to the customer. Sometimes these tests will be performed hand-in-hand with customer representatives.
  • Generate a punch list of items to be corrected and coordinate completion of the punch list with the project team prior to shipment of the product.
  • Verifies design meets requirements, Inspects equipment supplied matches approved drawings
  • Comprehends wiring schematics and diagrams for all equipment.
  • Coordinates problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs.
  • Ensures daily/weekly/monthly reporting, as well as any other general correspondence, is communicated accurately, concisely, and in a form appropriate to the target audience.
  • Conducts quality inspections at fabrication sites to ensure all quality steps are followed, lessening the chance of quality defects in the field.
  • Provide feedback to the Engineering team on opportunities to improve equipment design.
  • Complete field service reports and support the project team with necessary closeout documentation.
  • Manages shipping and receiving operations
  • Packages equipment for transport
  • Operated fork truck for loading and unloading equipment
  • Organizes and maintains shop facility
  • Assists with property management including oversight of 3rd party trash, office cleaning and landscaping crews
  • Adheres to all safety policies and procedures in accordance with guidelines established by the Company/OSHA; pursues safety initiatives in support of the Company’s vision of “zero accidents”; maintains a clean, safe, and orderly environment.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical training in Electrical and High School diploma required.
  • 5+ years’ experience working as a Field Services Specialist, Technician or Site Commissioning or a bachelor’s or associate degree in related field preferred.
  • Be able to apply knowledge of process instrumentation to test functionality and troubleshoot items like pressure transmitters, flow control valves using 4-20mA signals.
  • Be able to apply knowledge of rotating equipment and accessories to ensure functionality and troubleshoot items like fans, dampers, and flow meters.
  • Be able to read mechanical and electrical drawings, wiring schematics, P&ID’s, instrument O&M manuals for all equipment including immersion heaters and test resistance and continuity for low voltage and high voltage (up to 480V) systems.
  • Demonstrated track record of communicating and training plant associates to achieve the required knowledge transfer of equipment operations and safety features, as well as effectively communicating with customers and co-workers.
  • Valid in-state driver’s license. Driving record must meet acceptable company standards and be maintained as such to operate a vehicle while on company business. US Passport and ability to obtain a TWIC.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and API safety regulations and the ability to successfully complete site-specific customer safety training
  • Preferred, Experience with exhaust systems, SCR, combustion equipment, control systems and field startup/ commissioning preferable.
  • Preferred, Knowledge of combustion, air flow, differential pressure in liquids and gases, and other experience from chemical, hydrocarbon, and acid gas process streams.
  • Knowledge of and ability to program logic controllers (PLC) is a plus.

Positions in this function typically require typing, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.  

  • Concentrated mental and/or visual attention. The work involves performing complex tasks to very close accuracy and quality specifications, or a high degree of hand and eye coordination for sustained periods. 
  • The job is typically performed under comfortable working conditions; any disagreeable elements are generally absent during normal performance of job.  Visits to our manufacturing facility and suppliers’ facilities is required to monitor active projects and address design issues. 
  • Compliance with company attendance standards.  

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
