About the role

Overview

Manages and coordinates all efforts required to assure compliance with building codes and contracts in the construction or modification of existing or new facilities.

Directs and coordinates construction and remodeling activities on campus projects from completion of bidding and award of construction contracts to final acceptance. Inspects and reviews all construction and remodeling projects during construction to ensure that projects conform to plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees construction progress which may include ensuring procedures and materials comply with specifications; observes work in progress to assure timeliness, conformance with requirements, acceptable workmanship, and adherence to the project budget.
  • Reviews contract plans and specifications for compliance with appropriate standards and project requirements.
  • Conducts pre-construction conference and reviews contract bidding documents.
  • Manages assigned construction projects, coordinates with appropriate building codes and project requirements.
  • Receives and approves pay requests and change orders from contractors.
  • Provides liaison between the University and contractor on construction and remodeling projects under contract with the University; provides liaison between the University and architect on all construction.
  • Supervises and directs the collection of information by contacting various participants involved in the construction process to ensure the accuracy of as-built drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Interacts with contractors, construction inspectors and other university personnel to attempt to satisfy all parties involved in the construction phase of different projects. 
  • Maintains and monitors accurate progress schedules and implements steps to assure contractor’s completion of projects by the date established in their contract. 
  • Assists in developing means and methods to improve the construction program effort. 
  • Maintain liaison between contractor, clients, and consultants during construction to resolve field problems, and to maintain project schedule and budget; attend pre-bid conferences on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate and assist with final inspections: monitor completion of the punch list
  • Review projects at end of warranty period for non-compliance items.
  • Continually monitors the progress and status of construction projects through on-site inspections and discussions with construction supervisors and client.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Project Coordinator I:

  • Associate Degree plus two years of experience or a Bachelor’s Degree in: Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Interior Design or closely related field or Minimum 4 years work experience in Project Management

Project Coordinator II: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of experience; or a master’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Project Coordinator III: 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two years of experience; or a master’s degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education plus experience is required.

Project Coordinator Senior:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field plus a minimum of four years of relevant work experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field plus two years of directly related work experience; or equivalent education plus experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years' experience in Commercial/Institutional Project Management.
  • State of Utah DFCM project experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all applicable codes, standards and regulations.
  • Skill in estimating time and material requirements of work projects assigned.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Ability to create, read, and understand specifications from blue prints and schematic drawings.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers.
  • Mathematical computation skills.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and applicable software.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Accurate record keeping skills.
  • Skill in troubleshooting all types of construction problems.
  • Ability to accurately estimate project costs including materials, labor, fees, mark-ups, etc.
