About the role

In this role you're a senior individual contributor responsible for leading complex internal audit activities and supporting enterprise-wide risk management activities that strengthen governance, risk management, and internal control. The role facilitates the enterprise risk management program, including risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting, while independently planning and executing high-impact financial, operational, compliance, and integrated audits. The Lead Internal Auditor, ERM serves as a trusted advisor to business leaders, translates risk and assurance results into practical recommendations, and leads cross-functional initiatives that improve risk visibility, decision-making, and organizational performance. The role also provides technical leadership and coaching to other team members and helps advance the use of data, analytics, automation, and leading practices across Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, facilitation, and continuous improvement of enterprise risk management processes, including enterprise and emerging risk identification, risk assessments, risk prioritization, risk appetite and tolerance considerations, and mitigation monitoring.
- Partner with executives, risk owners, and cross-functional stakeholders to evaluate risks that may affect strategic objectives, challenge assumptions, clarify accountability, and support risk owners in developing practical risk response strategies.
- Develop clear, decision-useful enterprise risk reporting, dashboards, metrics, and trend analysis for use by senior leadership and the Board of Directors, including changes in risk exposure and mitigation progress.
- Independently lead high-complexity financial, operational, compliance, and integrated audit engagements from planning and scoping through testing, issue development, reporting, and follow-up, in alignment with application Internal Audit Standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide insights that inform the risk-based internal audit plan, while maintaining clear role boundaries between risk management facilitation and independent assurance activities.
- Evaluate process and control design, identify root causes and emerging themes, and develop strategic practical recommendations that strengthen controls, improve efficiency, and support business objectives.
- Lead cross-functional special projects, advisory reviews, and risk initiatives involving significant judgement and ambiguity, or enterprise impact; communicate complex matters with credibility, diplomacy, and sound business judgement.
- Support and expand the effective use of data analytics, automation, artificial intelligence, and continuous monitoring to improve audit coverage, quality, and efficiency.
- Provide technical leadership, review assigned work, and coach less-experienced team members; contribute to methodology, quality assurance, knowledge sharing, and professional development across Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit.
- Coordinate effectively with Internal Controls, Legal, and Compliance, Information Security, external auditors, and other risk functions to improve coverage, reduce unnecessary duplication, and preserve appropriate independence and objectivity.

Compensation:
Starting hiring range: $88,700 - $116,400. Actual pay may vary based on Casey’s assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, and qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include local prevailing wages and internal equity. Our full salary range for this role does extend beyond the typical hiring range listed, allowing team members the opportunity to continue to grow within the company.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Risk Management, or a related field, or equivalent work-related experience.
- At least seven years of progressive experience in internal audit, enterprise risk management, internal controls, compliance, accounting, or related-disciiplines.
- Demonstrated experience independently leading complex, cross-functional risk assessments, audits, or advisory projects and communicated results to senior leaders.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise management, internal control, and internal audit concepts and frameworks, including COSO and IIA Global Internal Audit Standards.
- One or more professional certifications such as CIA, CPA, CISA, CRMA, CFE, or comparable risk or assurance credential.
- Advanced business acumen and the ability to connect strategic objectives, enterprise risks, processes, and controls across functions.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to communicate complex risk and assurance matters clearly and concisely.
- Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority, build trusted relationships, and collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong project leadership, organization, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives and deadlines while maintaining quality and accuracy.
- Ability to maintain independence, objectivity, confidentiality, and professional visualization, and technology to improve insights and efficiency.
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting.
- Occasional travel may be necessary.
Preferred:
- Experience in a public company, retail, consumer, or multi-unit operating environment.
- Experience developing executive or Board-level risk and assurance reporting.
- Experience with governance, risk, compliance, or audit management platforms.
- Working knowledge of financial reporting, SOX requirements, regulatory compliance, business continuity, and technology risk.
- Demonstrated ability to coach others and lead through influence in a matrixed environment.
