About the role

cFocus Software seeks a Data Scientist to join our program supporting the United States Air Force (USAF). This position is on-site in Linthicum Heights, MD. This position requires an Active TS/SCI clearance.
Qualifications:
  • Active TS/SCI clearance
  • B.S. Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Experience applying data science, statistical analysis, and machine learning to practical business or mission problems.
  • Proficiency in analytical programming and querying, with ability to build reproducible workflows.
  • Experience cleaning and transforming data, engineering features, and assessing data quality.
  • Experience comparing, training, testing, validating, and tuning machine learning models.
  • Ability to select appropriate metrics, interpret results, and explain model limitations and uncertainty.
  • Experience creating reports, visualizations, or dashboards for technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Understanding of version control, DevSecOps, model monitoring, and auditable model lifecycle practices.
  • Ability to follow data governance and security requirements and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Duties:
  • Work with Government stakeholders to define business problems, analytical questions, AI use cases, machine learning objectives, and performance measures for approval.
  • Assess data readiness and supporting infrastructure, identifying gaps in data availability, quality, accessibility, and suitability for proposed analyses.
  • Gather, clean, transform, and prepare data from Government-approved sources; develop features and document preparation methods and assumptions.
  • Perform exploratory and statistical analyses to identify patterns, assess data limitations, and develop findings relevant to approved mission questions.
  • Research and compare candidate machine learning models; present evidence-based recommendations for Government review and selection.
  • Train, test, validate, and tune Government-selected models against approved requirements, performance metrics, and mission goals.
  • Use reproducible evaluation methods and appropriate training and test data separation; document model limitations, uncertainty, and potential sources of bias.
  • Develop AI models in accordance with Government-approved data governance policies and enterprise architecture; maintain supporting compliance evidence.
  • Coordinate model deployment with engineering and operations teams following Government review and formal acceptance.
  • Monitor deployed model performance and health; investigate degraded results or changes in input data and recommend approved corrective actions.
  • Apply DevSecOps processes throughout the model lifecycle, maintaining version control, documentation, and auditable records of data, code, models, and results.
  • Support data quality monitoring, remediation, metadata, and data tagging under approved standards; recommend improvements to data governance practices.
  • Develop analytical queries, reports, and interactive dashboards to communicate results and track Government-approved KPIs and business questions.
  • Analyze and fuse authorized external agency data only as permitted by established data-sharing agreements and security policies.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, cybersecurity personnel, and mission users; support assigned AI model evaluation for knowledge or records management functions.
