About the role

The Outpatient Surgery Clinic Registered Nurse (Float), is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care based on age specific components. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

As the Outpatient Surgery Clinic Registered Nurse (Float) you will execute position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex outpatient care. Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of patient care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Collaborate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and/or guidelines. Demonstrate performance and leadership that is broad enough to improve the care for a group of outpatients. Provide peers with formal or informal constructive feedback for improvement. Support colleagues and other nurses through knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality outpatient nursing care. Foster a safe and supportive environment conducive to the professional development of health care professionals. Evaluate outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility. Performs other duties as assigned. You will be expected to perform duties in the various Surgical Specialty Clinics (Neuro-Surgery, Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Wound-Ostomy, Urology, GYN, General Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Podiatry, ENT, Ortho and Ophthalmology). You will perform duties and work in an academic setting. Perform an autonomous role, triaging unscheduled patients, answering and documenting telephone encounters, supporting and utilizing various computer programs and documenting care within the electronic medical record. Follow clinic protocols and assist Providers with clinics and procedures. Demonstrate the ability to perform surgical postings and manage the surgical schedules within the various clinics assigned. Optimize patient care delivery and patient outcomes. Provide care to patients with pre and post - surgical medical conditions and utilize skills to promote active participation in the development of patient driven goals for health optimization. Additionally, you will perform in collaboration with the provider and the team members and is responsible for providing patient education, Pre-Surgical Assessments and coordinating activities as directed by the physician or licensed provider. Assist with patient concerns and participate in process improvement and safety initiatives. Promote a positive customer environment of care. Cross-train across all surgical clinics to ensure safe continuation of patient care. As a float nurse must demonstrate competency while performing the duties of the float nurse in other surgical clinics. The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
