About the role

Certified Arborist

  • Company: Grey Barn Commercial Landscaping
  • Location: Northwest Arkansas
  • Employment Type: Full-Time
  • Work Type: Field-based / in-person
  • Base Salary: $66,000/year
  • Target Earnings: $78,000/year

About the Role

Grey Barn is a fast-growing commercial landscaping company serving properties throughout Northwest Arkansas. We are looking for a Certified Arborist to become our internal expert for tree care while helping us expand our tree-service capabilities. This is a hands-on field position.

Compensation

Base Salary: $66,000/year. Performance Bonus Opportunity: $12,000+/year. Target Total Compensation: $78,000+/year.

Performance bonuses will be tied to measurable results including profitable tree work, estimating performance, quality, safety, crew development, and overall individual/company performance. Exceptional performance can create opportunities to earn beyond the initial $12,000 annual bonus target.

What You Will Do

  • Serve as Grey Barn's primary tree-care expert, performing and leading tree pruning, removals, planting, and chainsaw work
  • Identify and document hazardous or declining trees, storm damage, and pruning and planting opportunities for the Sales/Account Management team
  • Support the sales team on tree opportunities by visiting properties and estimating labor hours, crew size, and equipment for tree work
  • Review larger or more complicated tree estimates before proposals are submitted
  • Provide hands-on training and coaching to Crew Leaders and field employees on proper pruning, tree planting, and chainsaw safety. Teach while you work
  • Establish and maintain Grey Barn's standards for chainsaw safety, PPE, aerial work, and rigging, with the authority and responsibility to stop unsafe tree work
  • Assist crews with shrub pruning, hedge trimming, planting, and other landscaping duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Current ISA Certified Arborist credential
  • 5+ years of professional arboriculture/tree-care experience
  • Demonstrated tree pruning, tree-removal, and tree-planting experience
  • Strong tree identification knowledge and ability to identify common tree-health and safety issues
  • Ability to estimate labor hours for tree work
  • Strong understanding of chainsaw and tree-work safety
  • Experience operating professional tree-care equipment
  • Ability to train and coach field employees
  • Willingness to perform physical field work and general landscaping work when needed
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to work outdoors throughout the year

Strongly Preferred

  • 7+ years of professional arboriculture experience
  • Previous tree-crew leadership and experience training field crews
  • Commercial landscaping experience
  • Tree-work estimating experience
  • Aerial lift/bucket-truck, climbing, and rigging experience
  • CDL
  • ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

You Will Thrive Here If You

  • Want a hands-on field role
  • Teach while you work
  • Put safety first, including stopping unsafe tree work
  • Own your estimates, your numbers, and your results
  • Enjoy working with crews and the sales team

This Is Probably Not the Role for You If You

  • Want to work behind a desk
  • Cut corners on safety, PPE, or rigging
  • Prefer to work alone instead of training others
  • Avoid estimating or supporting the sales team
  • Do not want to do general landscaping work when needed

Our Core Values

  • Have Fun: Work hard and move fast, and enjoy the people on your crew. Bring energy and be positive.
  • Try New Things Fast: Don't wait around for perfect answers. Try something, learn from it, improve it, and keep moving.
  • Best in the World: Set the standard in our market for tree work, estimating, safety, pruning and customer experience.
  • Put in the Work: Put on the PPE, grab the equipment, get in the field, teach while you work, and finish the job.
  • Hold Accountability: Own your commitments, your numbers, your safety and your results. If something isn't right, speak up and help fix it.
