About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for certain competitive positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: As a Second Assistant Engineer, Pipeline Dredge, Class 1, the incumbent will work under the general supervision of the Chief or 1st Assistant Engineer.

Conducting regular and periodic inspections by visual and auditory means of all machinery to determine the operating condition and the need for maintenance and repairs.

Making minor adjustments and emergency repairs on own initiative and reports major defects to the Chief Engineer.

Operating controls to start, stop, reverse, and regulate the speed of propelling engines on signal from the pilot house.

Controlling the operation of heating, refrigeration, and plumbing systems by manipulating necessary winches, throttles, and switches.

Observing gauges such as pressure gauges, vacuum gauges, fuel oil gauges, tachometers, pyrometers, etc., to determine the proper functioning of machinery.
