About the role
Resident Engineer STLA-F Battery tray Manufacturing
Battery Tray Welding Geometry Engineer combines automotive structural design, welding process expertise, and geometric validation to ensure battery tray systems meet crash, sealing, durability, and manufacturing requirements.
Role Overview:
This position supports engineering or manufacturing team, focusing on the design, development, and release of battery tray structural components — including housings, top/bottom covers, sealing/welding, brackets, and related systems. The engineer applies welding process knowledge and geometric engineering to ensure parts are manufacturable, structurally sound, and compliant with vehicle performance and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design & Development: Own and manage the design, development, and release of battery tray structural components/systems, integrating with electrical, battery module, thermal, and chassis systems
- Welding Process Engineering: Select and validate welding processes (e.g., GMAW, Laser Hybrid, CMT) for aluminum and other alloys, ensuring leak-tight, distortion-controlled, and high-quality welds. Mig and Flux Cored Arc Welding, Metallographic Inspection
- Geometric Validation: Operate CAD tools (NX, Vis Mockup) to validate 2D drawings, analyze 3D models, cut sections, and verify dimensional tolerances and fit up
- Structural & Performance Analysis: Support FEA, vibration, crash, and thermal testing; ensure structural integrity and compliance with standards. (PAXIT software microscope software used in destructive testing)
- Manufacturability & Cost: Work with internal and external teams to ensure manufacturability, cost targets, and material performance meet project milestones.
- Quality & Compliance: Manage PLM release processes, BoM updates, PPAP, DFMEA/PFMEA, and technical reviews; ensure designs meet internal and regulatory requirements.
- Launch Support: Provide onsite plant launch support, triage issues, and implement corrective actions for assembly or build variation.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Technical Skills:
- CAD modeling and geometric analysis (NX, Vis Mockup)Welding process knowledge (GMAW, Laser Hybrid, CMT, LSC, PMC)
- FEA and structural validation
- Understanding of aluminum alloy properties and welding challenges
- Soft Skills: Cross-functional collaboration, problem-solving, and ability to work in fast-paced, evolving environments
