Foreign Affairs Officer

The Bureau of Emerging Threats (ET) leads the Department in both anticipating and responding to national security challenges from adversary use of new technologies. The position is located in the Office of Cybersecurity (ET/C) which leads the Department's effort to protect the United States against national security threats in cyberspace. Analyze cyber incidents within the portfolio and provides comprehensive assessments and recommendations on their implications for U.S. national security interests and foreign policy objectives.

Prepare comprehensive analytical reports on cyber threats, foreign government activities, and policy options for Department leadership within the portfolio.

Lead Department participation in interagency working groups and meetings on assigned cyber policy, operations, and incident response issues.

Facilitate information sharing between ET/C and interagency partners on cyber threats and policy initiatives.

Support diplomatic engagement with foreign governments on assigned cyber policy issues by preparing briefing materials, talking points, and background information.

At the GS-12 & GS-11 level, the incumbent performs duties as outlined above; however, the scope and complexity of assignments are of less responsibility and independence. The incumbent receives closer than normal supervision than at the GS-13 level.
