We are seeking a Maintenance & Engineer Manager at our Phoenix, AZ plant. 

Job Summary 

The Maintenance and Engineering Manager is responsible for assuring that the facility and production equipment are properly maintained and designed to safely perform specified tasks in a cost-effective manner.  Included in the execution of these responsibilities are: identification, justification, and execution of capital projects; monitoring of machine functioning to include repair/downtime history and planning/execution of necessary/cost effective preventative maintenance activities; maintenance of stock room inventory that adequately reflects the parts needs of the operation in a cost effective manner; direct supervision of professional engineers, technicians, department supervision and clerical personnel; indirect supervision of hourly maintenance craftsmen to include skilled electrical and millwright personnel; maintenance of physical facility to serve its intended use in a safe/cost effective condition; assure that the equipment meets necessary safety characteristics as specified by various regulatory bodies (eg. Occupational Health & Safety Administration, National Fire Protection Association, industrial insurance carrier, etc.); monitoring of discharges (eg. air, noise, sewer, etc.) to assure that proper permits are in force and emissions are maintained within prescribed limits; interface with other plant departments to identify, justify, and execute projects that improve safety, reduce manufacturing costs, improve production, enhance repair of equipment breakdowns and/or facility problems; development, justification and adherence to annual operating expense budget; outside interface/support with various company groups (eg. R & D, Central Engineering, etc.) to complete projects/activities targeted at improving productivity. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Departmental management - Provides leadership and direction for the plant's maintenance and engineering functions. Focus of efforts include preventative maintenance, maximization of equipment utilization, parts inventory control, energy management, waste minimization/management, concurrent engineering, project identification and justification, craftsmen development, vibration analysis, process/machine troubleshooting, failure analysis, equipment design/fabrication/installation, fire/loss protection, and budget development/justification/maintenance. Establishes direction for the plant maintenance department to professionalize practices to reflect state-of-the-art developments in manufacturing maintenance engineering and management.  Responsible for developing departmental budget needs, justifying such, and maintaining costs within budget. Expected to understand the interrelationship between machine functioning and proposed equipment projects with the company's "cost of goods sold" results.
  • Supervision - Directly supervises hourly maintenance mechanics and develop/modify systems to enhance productivity and/or reduce maintenance downtime/costs. Serves as SME (Subject Matter Expert) for electrical, mechanical and basic PLC. Supervisory duties include hiring, terminating, promoting, coaching, counseling, work prioritization, goal setting, and performance appraisal. Assures department meets appropriate governmental guidelines and requirements related to personnel issues.
  • Project management/engineering - Coordinates specification, planning, justification and execution of capital projects and major maintenance activities. This includes determination and documentation of need; coordinated development of proposed equipment/facility required to address need; technical specification of required equipment/facility functioning/component; review/recommendation of vendor/contractors; actual project management during execution (often through a subordinate intermediary) and ultimate completion. Activities must be completed in a safe manner, consistent with regulatory body and insurance contractor demands, with a minimum disruption of plant production within specified time periods and within budgeted costs.
  • Plant engineering expert - Serves as resident professional engineer advising departmental staff, the plant manager, other departmental managers, line supervisors and other plant personnel in matters relating to equipment design and functioning. Works with production and quality/technical service departments to improve process functioning by making justified equipment modifications and/or changes.  Assists R&D, Purchasing and Central Engineering personnel as needed to better understand equipment capabilities/functions, especially as they relate to product/process requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

Essential Full Performance Knowledge: 

Engineering principles and fundamentals - hydraulics, pneumatics, thermodynamics, electronics, etc. Pumping equipment (centripetal & positive displacement) 

Capital project (ACE) justification process. 

General understanding of the hourly payroll system, Functional understanding of hourly personnel practices. 

Basic industrial engineering concepts. 

Business finance and accounting in general, and how concepts relate to Carlisle Construction Materials Leadership/motivation/personnel management 

Legal agency requirements (Environmental Protection Agency, Clear Air Act, borough sewer discharge requirements, Occupational Health & Safety Administration, National Fire Protection Association, etc.). Basic understanding of general business principles (marketing, sales, cost accounting, etc.) 

Basic understanding of business law, especially as it relates to vendor contracts. 

Essential Full Performance Skills:

Supervision of personnel to include: planning and directing work, discipline, developing personnel, appraising performance, recruiting, hiring personnel, etc. 

Computer – Microsoft Office, JD Edwards, CMMS, Computer Assisted Design, FoxPro, etc. 

Oral communication - Able to make clear, concise oral presentations to employees and management Department management - Budget development and tracking, goal setting, resource justification, etc. 

Written communication - Able to write grammatically correct, concise technical reports, letters, and memorandums. 

Design and implementation of administrative systems to address the organization functional problems. 

Education and Experience:  

A bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering is required. In addition, 5 years of related engineering and/or maintenance experience which includes in a manufacturing/industrial environment.  

Working Conditions: 

  • Approximately 60% of time is spent in office or typical business atmosphere. 40% of time is on the factory floor (or around physical facilities) 
  • Core hours are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The operation runs 24 hours/day and sometimes on weekends. This necessitates regular weekend project/repair work to avoid interference with manufacturing. Given the job requirements and above demands, the incumbent will be expected to occasionally work on weekends and holidays and be in the facility during “off-hours” for several hours when emergency conditions arise. Routine work beyond 40 40-hour week is necessary, normally about 50-55 hours per week. You must be on call to come into the plant when emergencies dictate, or personnel need technical expertise. The position often places very tight time and cost constraints on activities, creating potentially stressful situations.

We are seeking a Maintenance Supervisor at our Phoenix, AZ plant. 

Job Summary 

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for directly supervising the work of 1 to 7 Maintenance Technicians. Delegating work orders and preventive maintenance orders to the Maintenance Technicians. Expected hours of work 40 hours a week with possibility of overtime, variable shifts. Travel for training or other plant observations when necessary. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Direct Supervision of Maintenance Personnel. 
  • Assist in Training and Development of Maintenance Personnel. 
  • Direct and coordinate activities associated with maintenance department. 
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings. 
  • Delegate work orders to Maintenance Personnel and Production Co-Workers as needed. 
  • Schedule and delegate preventive maintenance task for all plant equipment. 
  • Supervisor plant safety rules and regulations- especially lockout/tagout 
  • Work with Carlisle Engineering to troubleshoot issues, equipment upgrades and new installations. 
  • Conduct Maintenance Technicians reviews (30-60-90, midyear, annual). 
  • Documentation of incident, disciplinary action, accident injury reports and other related employee issues when needed. 
  • Participate in COS activities which include, SQDC board walks, 5S, and Kaizen events. 
  • Advanced understanding of maintenance department and job requirements. 
  • Up-Keep of the entire plant inside and out. 
  • Any other duties assigned by management. 

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

  • Previous experience in the following maintenance areas: General Building Electrical, Industrial PLC Electrical Training, Plumbing, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Welding and Boilers. 
  • Knowledge of measuring gauges such as tape measures and calipers. 
  • Prior experience operating a forklift and scissor lift. 
  • Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office Suite, SAP, Ladder Logic, etc.). 
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills. 
  • Prior experience reading blueprints, equipment manuals and schematics, and preventive maintenance and work order schedules. 
  • Understanding of basic math and writing skills. 
  • Have boiler operator certification or ability to obtain boiler certification. 
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes including NEMA, etc. (NFPA 70E, Arc Flash) 
  • Industrial electrical AC/DC troubleshooting skills, including ability to utilize electrical instrumentation (megohmmeter). 
  • Complete knowledge of all plant equipment (level III). 
  • Ability to use hand& portable tools, gas and arc welder, forklift, pickup truck, testing equipment, tape measure, computer (shop floor and ERP). 
  • Ability to work under pressure to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations.
  •  Education and Experience: 
    • Required: 
    • Education – High School diploma or GED required or technical school. 
    • Three to five (3-5) years related maintenance experience. 
    • Two to Three (2-3) years of Prior Leadership or Supervisory experience. 
    • Previous experience in the following maintenance areas preferred: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, welding, and boiler. 
    • Mechanical background with rotating equipment. Hydraulic and pneumatic. Electrical/mechanical troubleshooting. 
    • PLC Knowledge. 

    Working Conditions: 

    • Fast paced manufacturing environment where workers are exposed to both ambient/outside temperatures and dust; working with mechanical parts and pinch points; exposure to increased noise levels. 
    • Exposure to hazardous mechanical, electrical and chemical substances/equipment.
