Baystate Health and the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School–Baystate are recruiting an experienced Master’s-level Biostatistician to join the growing Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences. The Quantitative Methods Core (QMC) provides statistical and data science support across a broad research portfolio, including serving as a Data Coordinating Center for multicenter studies, supporting clinical and pragmatic trials, and conducting research using large administrative and real-world datasets to evaluate healthcare outcomes and policy.

Position Highlights:
- Serve as a key member of the Quantitative Methods Core, supporting and leading high-impact research, including clinical and pragmatic trials and Data Coordinating Center activities.
- Independently consult with investigators on study design, analysis strategies, and interpretation of results.
- Conduct complex statistical analyses and contribute to grant proposals, manuscripts, and presentations.
- Work with large, real-world and administrative datasets, including electronic health records, claims, registry, and clinical trial data.

Key Responsibilities:
As part of the Quantitative Methods Core, responsibilities include:
- Provide statistical consultation on study design, analytic strategies, and data management for new and ongoing clinical, pragmatic, epidemiologic, health services, and translational research projects.
- Perform sample size and power calculations to support study planning and grant submissions.
- Conduct advanced statistical analyses and develop, validate, and maintain reproducible analysis programs and workflows using software such as SAS, R, or STATA.
- Integrate, query, manage, and prepare large, complex datasets—including electronic health records, claims, registry, clinical trial, and other administrative data—for analysis; identify potential data-quality issues and collaborate with study teams to resolve them.
- Develop statistical analysis plans and contribute detailed methods and results sections for protocols, grants, manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations.
- Serve as a lead statistician on assigned projects and contribute to federally funded and other extramural research, including clinical trials and Data Coordinating Center activities.
- Interpret findings, independently recommend appropriate additional analyses as research questions evolve, and provide methodological guidance throughout the research lifecycle.
- Deliver presentations and one-on-one consultations to support faculty development in research methods.
- Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including clinicians, investigators, research staff, sponsors, and external collaborators.
- Independently manage multiple projects with minimal supervision, establish and monitor analytic timelines, communicate project status and resource needs, and contribute to QMC-wide quality assurance and reproducible research practices.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related quantitative discipline.
- At least 3 years of experience in applied biostatistics within clinical, public health, or academic research environments.
- Strong programming skills and experience with statistical software such as SAS, R, or STATA.
- Demonstrated ability to support multiple projects from design to publication independently.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with large healthcare or administrative datasets (e.g., EHR, claims, registry, or multisource data) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with epidemiologic study designs, clinical or pragmatic trials, health services research, or large healthcare datasets is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting extramural research, multicenter studies, or Data Coordinating Center activities is preferred.

Note: The compensation range(s) in the table below represent the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
