About the role

The Director of Maintenance develops and implements long-term strategies to meet operational goals and business objectives. Oversees department functions, including fleet service, repair, and maintenance, ensuring cost optimization, top-tier customer service, and safety. Ensures all objectives align with current and future business needs, delivered on time, within budget, and efficiently.

This role can be located out of any of the South Shore Transportation Terminals in the Southeast region.


Essential Functions:
* Strategic Leadership: Partner with the VP of Maintenance and executive management to define and implement long-term goals, strategies, and policies. Align departmental functions with business priorities.
* Continuous Improvement: Drive process enhancements to achieve best practices and optimal results. Stay updated on industry trends, software, and market developments.
* Asset Management: Oversee the timely and efficient purchase, sale, and disposition of tractors/trailers.
* Procurement & Vendor Management: Lead equipment research, procurement processes, vendor negotiations, and contract management. Ensure contracts are fulfilled and align with company standards.
* Departmental Goals: Set and guide long-term departmental goals to enhance effectiveness, efficiency, and operational excellence in support of strategic objectives.
* Operational Oversight: Direct staff in equipment and facility repairs and maintenance, ensuring timely, accurate service, both in-house and through vendors. Align activities with strategic business priorities.
* Administrative Leadership: Oversee departmental policies, including employee selection, performance evaluation, talent management, and development. Assess and implement training and development plans.
* Staffing & Compensation: Review and recommend changes to staffing levels, employee compensation, and work schedules.
* Manager Support: Provide direction and support to department managers.
* Additional Duties: Perform other tasks and assist with special projects as needed.


Knowledge/Experience:
* 7 years leadership experience
* Highly detailed knowledge of all aspects of service, maintenance and repair of fleet with experience in managing large multiple maintenance/repair facilities and outside vendors.
* Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs
* Knowledge of FMCSR (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations)
* Knowledge of management/leadership fundamentals
* Experience in effectively interacting with and influencing business/function leaders
* University graduation in a related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience
