About the role
The SBU Packaging Engineer is responsible for creating, printing, reprinting, verifying, and supporting labels required for packaging operations, including hand-pack labels, master-pack labels, and other approved package-identification labels.
The position supports packaging operations by helping maintain label availability, reducing avoidable delays, identifying missing or incorrect information, coordinating label priorities, and escalating packaging issues quickly to the appropriate Packaging Engineer or supervisor.
The position may execute approved temporary deviations when required materials are unavailable, provided the deviation follows a pre-approved contingency, documented Packaging Engineering direction, or a defined escalation process.
- Create, print, reprint, verify, and distribute approved labels required for hand-pack, master-pack, rework, and other packaging operations
- Operate Printronix printers, successor printers, mobile printers, and other approved label-printing systems used to support packaging operations
- Generate labels using approved system data, released packaging specifications, approved work instructions, approved templates, and Packaging Engineering direction
- Verify labels for legibility, barcode readability, part-number accuracy, quantity accuracy, label format, and proper application requirements before release to operations
- Maintain label supplies, printer ribbon, approved label stock, and printer readiness for assigned areas
- Coordinate label priorities with Packaging Operations, Packaging Engineering, Material Planning, Quality, Logistics, and supervision to reduce avoidable production delays
- Monitor label-related bottlenecks, missing data, material shortages, repeated reprints, printer downtime, and process delays; recommend improvements to reduce cycle time and support faster part flow
- Identify packaging or label discrepancies and escalate unresolved issues to the assigned Packaging Engineer or supervisor before implementation
- Support packaging operations by preparing labels in advance, organizing label requests, tracking urgent packaging needs, and helping ensure jobs are ready to run
- Document temporary label or packaging deviations where required and ensure deviations are communicated to Packaging Engineering for review and closure
- Perform related label-production, clerical, documentation, and packaging support duties as assigned, consistent with applicable contract language and local practice
Basic Requirements:
- High school diploma / GED required
- Ability to work any shift and overtime as required
- Excellent organizational, written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective business relationships with plant leadership and customers
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration
- Must have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google
- Suite software programs
