Health Technician (Anesthesia)

About the Position: This position is with the Defense Health Agency at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, located at Fort Hood, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service

Identify patients, document patient allergies, and ensure personal effects have been removed before beginning intravenous fluids.

Hand items to the anesthetist such as needles, IV solutions, sterile spinal drugs, etc., obtain requested supplies, and assist with properly positioning patients.

Procure all non-standard medical supplies and equipment, contact and coordinates all vendor demonstrations, audit and collate evaluation forms, and negotiate pricing on non-standard medical supplies and equipment.

Perform as Quality Improvement Equipment Control Officer and maintain records of anesthesia equipment service, checkout procedures, biomedical maintenance, and records of malfunctioning equipment for review by inspecting regulatory organizations.

Aid the anesthetist by getting blood from the blood bank or refrigerator and properly identify specific blood, attach blood recipient sets to blood warming sets, and aid in pumping blood to the patient.

Aseptically clean, sterilize, and store all reusable anesthesia equipment, clean all anesthesia machines, and keep the anesthesia supply and workroom neat and clean.
