About the role
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Security Guards functions as the first layer of defense to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access to military installations restricted to the general public while preserving the life, health and safety of the military installations.
This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-04 and GS-05 grade level. At the full performance, GS-06, the incumbent will:
Perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
Serve as the initial point of contact for the installation’s various visitors, provides answers to questions, determines whether appropriate need for access exists, and provides assistance as required.
Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with federal and state laws.
Provide authoritative guidance and information on security regulations and procedures, exercising sound judgment and discretion in response to telephone and in-person security inquiries.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. For this job at the GS-05 and GS-06 grade levels, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted at the GS-05 and GS-06 grade levels.
