Software Test Engineer

Symetra is seeking a skilled, experienced Software Test Engineer, with a primary focus on writing and executing user focused, functional test cases and manual testing for our customer correspondence. Responsible as a team member to drive enhancements and maintain Symetra applications that allow our business partners to proactively manage business processes. This individual, working under general supervision as an individual contributor, will be expected to partner with business and technical subject matter experts in ensuring that project deliverables are met, focusing mostly on quality, performance, and stability. This individual will also use independent judgment to identify changes, enhancements, and/or refinements needed based on testing, and make recommendations as to the same.

Specifics for this role:

As a part of a digital transformation initiative, we are migrating to a cloud native platform. This role will be crucial to the success of ensuring accuracy as we convert all the letter composition, previewing, and archiving into existing Customer Communication Management solutions. With the assistance of our current STE, this role will lead the testing efforts for the documents we are converting and bringing in house.

Responsibilities:

• Design, create and execute test plans/cases as per technical requirements/specifications for testing.
• Perform functional testing, regression testing, ongoing system integration, and periodic build verification (smoke) tests as part of product deployment.
• Estimates scope and work effort, writes test procedures, test scripts, publishes test results and test prerequisites.
• Detailed knowledge of manual software testing principles & best practices.
• Ability to work collaboratively with POD/Scrum team members or non-technical cross-functional team members.
• Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills to perform root cause analysis of defects in complex software components and services.
• Appropriately communicates progress, issues, risks, and helps develop risk mitigation plans in collaboration with the project team.
• Participates in refinement sessions and provides feedback on incomplete, missing, incorrect requirements.
• Strong technical skills including software debugging techniques.
• Facilitate in peer review of test cases, test plans, scripts, and defects with team members.
• Execute, document, and analyze test cases and report test results.
