Job Title: Communications and Marketing Director
Hours: Exempt
Pay Rate: $70K-80K
Reports To: Parish Executive Officer
Job Summary:
The Marketing & Communications Coordinator is responsible for telling the story of San
Francisco Solano Catholic Church through creative, strategic, and engaging communication.
This role combines faith, creativity, design, photography, videography, social media, writing, and
project management to strengthen Solano’s brand and mission.
The ideal candidate is a faith-filled, creative, organized, and self-motivated person who can take
an idea and independently develop it into a polished, cohesive campaign. They must be able to
manage multiple projects, communicate effectively, stay organized, and maintain a high
standard of quality across all parish communications.
Above all, this role is about using communication as a ministry—to showcase what God is doing
at Solano, build community, and invite people to belong, believe, and become.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Creative Direction & Campaign Development
• Developing creative concepts and visual direction for major parish seasons, ministries,
events, and campaigns.
• Taking initial ideas or limited direction and building them into cohesive campaigns across
multiple platforms.
• Creating consistent visual and written storytelling across social media, print, video,
signage, the website, Mass environments, and parish communications.
• Maintaining Solano's established brand while continuing to expand and strengthen it.
• Understanding the importance of intentionality, symbolism, storytelling, and visual
consistency, particularly during seasons such as Advent, Lent, Easter, and Christmas.
Photography & Videography
• Operate a professional or high-end camera system, such as Sony or an equivalent
system.
• Photograph Masses, parish events, ministries, retreats, major celebrations, staff,
volunteers, and community life.
• Capture high-quality video for social media, promotional campaigns, testimonials, event
recaps, announcements, and parish storytelling.
• Understand composition, exposure, lighting, framing, audio, and other basic production
principles.
• Edit and organize photography professionally.
• Edit both short-form and longer-form video content.
• Maintain an organized library of parish photos, videos, graphics, and other digital assets.
Graphic Design & Branding
- The candidate should have a strong eye for design and be capable of producing professional creative work across a wide range of formats.
- Ability to understand Solano's existing visual identity, building upon rather than dilute it.
- Maintaining the high aesthetic standard the parish has established.
- Design responsibilities may include:
- Social media graphics
- Event branding
- Flyers
- Posters
- Banners and signage
- Merchandise
- Mass slides
- Bulletin graphics
- Digital displays
- Ministry materials
- Printed collateral
- Campaign branding
- Website graphics
- Event programs and promotional materials
- Experience with professional creative software is expected, including programs such as:
- Adobe Lightroom
- Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent professional video-editing software
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Photoshop
- Canva
- CapCut or similar short-form editing platforms
Social Media
- The Marketing & Communications Coordinator oversees and develops Solano's social
media presence. - Consistently creating and publishing high-quality content.
- Maintaining Solano's clean, welcoming, faith-filled, family-oriented visual identity.
- Creating content that feels authentic to parish life rather than overly corporate or
promotional. - Understanding what audiences respond to and adapting content accordingly.
- Creating engaging photography, video, reels, graphics, captions, and event coverage.
- Finding the balance between promoting ministries and events and telling the broader
story of life at Solano. - Paying attention to social media trends while determining what appropriately fits the
parish's identity and mission. - Maintaining consistency in posting, quality, voice, and visual presentation.
Writing & Editing
- Strong communication and editorial judgment are essential.
- The candidate must be able to recognize the difference between effective and ineffective
communication. - Writing and editing may include:
- Social media captions
- Bulletin content
- Parish announcements
- Video scripts
- Emails
- Website copy
- Event descriptions
- Promotional messaging
- Ministry communications
Project Management & Organization
- Organization is essential to succeeding in this position.
- San Francisco Solano has more than 20 ministries, numerous parish events, multiple
major annual campaigns, weekly communications, and many projects happening
simultaneously. - The Marketing & Communications Coordinator must be able to manage multiple projects
at the same time. - Prioritize projects based on deadlines, parish needs, and importance.
- Keep track of requests from ministries, staff members, parishioners, vendors, and
leadership. - Plan ahead for major seasons and events.
- Maintain calendars, project lists, deadlines, files, and creative assets.
- Follow projects from the initial request through completion.
- Recognize upcoming communication needs before they become last-minute
emergencies. - Work independently while knowing when additional direction or approval is needed
Communication & Collaboration
- The person in this role should communicate clearly and consistently with staff.
- Respond to emails and requests in a timely manner.
- Keep ministry leaders informed about the status of their projects
- Ask questions when necessary rather than making assumptions.
- Communicate deadlines and expectations clearly.
- Follow up when information or approvals are needed.
- Avoid leaving people uncertain about the status of their requests.
- Be comfortable managing multiple conversations and projects simultaneously.
- Work collaboratively while also capable of taking ownership of projects.
General Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of the Catholic faith and Church
mission - Strong creative and visual communication skills
- Experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, or a related field
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and video-editing software
- Experience with photography and videography
- Strong social media and digital communication skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Able to take direction and turn ideas into complete, creative projects
- Strong understanding of branding and visual consistency
- Comfortable working collaboratively with staff, clergy, ministry leaders, and
volunteers - Able to receive feedback and make appropriate revisions
- Strong problem-solving skills and good creative judgment
- Ability to plan ahead and anticipate communication needs
- Comfortable learning new technology, platforms, and AI tools
- Passion for using creativity and communication to support the mission of the
Catholic Church
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during parish events and activities
- Ability to lift and carry equipment, supplies, signage, and materials up to
approximately 25–30 pounds - Ability to operate cameras, computers, and other audio/visual equipment
- Ability to move throughout the parish campus, including indoor and outdoor areas
- Ability to occasionally work evenings, weekends, and extended hours for major
parish events - Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and climb stairs as needed for event setup,
photography, videography, and signage - Ability to work in a variety of environments, including outdoors and in varying
weather conditions - Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail during extended periods of creative or event-related work
Environmental Requirements
- Work primarily in an office and parish campus environment
- Regularly work indoors and outdoors during parish events and activities
- May be exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain
- May work in crowded, noisy, or high-energy environments during large parish events
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and occasional extended hours as needed
- Ability to work around children, families, volunteers, staff, and large groups
- Frequent movement between offices, church spaces, meeting rooms, event areas,
and outdoor facilities - Ability to adapt to changing environments, priorities, and last-minute event needs
- May occasionally work in environments with limited lighting or increased noise
while photographing or filming events
