About the role

This position provides leadership, coaching, and oversight for employee benefits sales and service team members while maintaining a small book of client relationships. This position is responsible for ensuring exceptional client service, supporting business growth objectives, monitoring team performance and workloads, and maintaining compliance with applicable insurance regulations and agency standards. This role collaborates with leadership to improve workflows, develop staff capabilities, and promote operational excellence across the department.

Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Supervision
    • Set a strong example for direct reports and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous growth.
    • Provide continuous coaching and mentorship, targeting growth and learning opportunities to develop skills of direct reports.
    • Align team goals with the company’s mission and objectives, ensuring clarity in priorities and direction.
    • Proactively identify potential issues, facilitate open communication, and implement solutions that support team cohesion and overall effectiveness.
    • Mentor and support team members in developing small group sales, client acquisition, and growth strategies to drive individual and team success.
    • Provide training and expertise to producers on benefit products, market positioning, carrier solutions, and sales opportunities to strengthen business development efforts.
    • Perform compensation and performance appraisals in accordance with Bell program.
  • Account Management
    • Maintain and service a small book of employee benefits business.
    • Support retention and growth efforts through exceptional client relationship management.
    • Ensure house accounts are appropriately managed, marketed, sold, and serviced.
    • Assist team members with complex client service issues, escalations, and account-related concerns.
    • Monitor team workflows, productivity, and workload distribution to ensure service standards are achieved.
    • Assign, prioritize, and reassign work as needed to meet client and business needs.
    • Audit work performed by team members to ensure accuracy, quality, compliance, and adherence to agency procedures.
    • Identify training needs and coordinate ongoing development opportunities.
    • Collaborate with management on workflow enhancements, resource planning, process improvements, and training initiatives.
    • Recommend operational efficiencies and best practices to improve service delivery and team effectiveness.
    • Support the implementation of department goals and strategic initiatives.
    • Ensure team adherence to insurance regulations, agency policies, licensing requirements, and carrier guidelines.
    • Promote ethical business practices and maintain a culture of integrity, accountability, and client advocacy.

Education, Experience, and Other Expectations
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 6-8 years of experience in employee benefits, health insurance, insurance brokerage, or a related field.
  • Previous sales, account management, or sales support experience, preferred.
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
  • Active Life and Health Insurance License or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe after hire.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with technology and business systems used to support sales and client service activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics, integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
