Position: Motor Vehicle/Tax Lead Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-time
Department: Treasurers Office Reports to: Ravalli County Treasurer

Position Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm Benefit Eligible: Full Benefits/PERS
Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Ravalli County Treasurer, the Motor Vehicle/Tax Lead is responsible for the functions of the Motor Vehicle Division and Property Tax Division of the Treasurer’s Office. This position responsibility encompasses the full range of State and County statutory responsibilities in regards to Motor Vehicles licensing and Tax/Deposit collection.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Oversees the daily workflow of the office.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Motor Vehicle Department.
- Assists public with information regarding vehicle titles, liens and licensing.
- Balance all receipts and money taken in each day by the MV department, tax department and Treasurer.
- Supervise and train Deputy’s in Treasurer’s Office.
- Track hours and schedule lunches and breaks.
- Access to vault and safes for making change
- Processes title and registration transactions for all vehicles
- Process Titles for all through the mail
- Balance all receipts and money collected daily for Treasurer’s Office
- Reconcile monthly MVD & MT Interactive system.
- Track and prepare changes & updates to MVD procedures
- Tax department – and backup of daily duties
- Post Tax Payments
- Post Mortgage Payments for tax payments
- NSF collections
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge and expertise with CARS and Black Mountain software
- Familiarity and knowledge of government accounting (fund accounting)
- Understanding of cash receipts and cash disbursements.
- Experience in dealing with the public
- Ability to communicate well in both verbal and written forms.
- Able to work with customers and lending institutions to correct problems.
- Knowledge of cash flows and cash flow management
- Finance or accounting experience preferred
- Experience in public administration and office management preferred
- Knowledge of standard computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, data base).
- Knowledge of, and ability to competently utilize, standard office equipment (i.e. Computer, typewriter, 10-key calculator, fax, copier, etc.).
- Knowledge of basic record keeping and accounting.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to interact constructively with various level staff and in a collaborative “team’ setting.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Understanding of cash receipts and cash disbursements cash handling.
- Experience in dealing with the public
- Knowledge of cash flows and cash flow management
- Two (2) years’ work experience in an office setting with responsibilities involving clerical support and administration, computer database input and retrieval, accounting, and direct public contact.
- Demonstrated ability to type 40 works per minute.
- Valid driver’s license
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Additional education and/or training specific to position responsibilities preferred.
- Knowledge and expertise with Black Mountain preferred.
- Finance or accounting experience preferred
- Experience in public administration and office management preferred
- Additional education and/or training specific to position responsibilities and accounting will be preferred

Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Ability to lift and maneuver boxes up to 25 lbs.
