Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is a hands-on manager responsible for month-end close execution, financial reporting support, technical accounting oversight, team leadership, internal controls, and continuous improvement across a diverse family of operating businesses, including contract services businesses, apparel sales, and franchised quick service restaurants. The role operates within a shared services accounting model and is expected to balance day-to-day accounting ownership with supervision, review, process discipline, and proactive risk identification.
The primary focus of the position is timely and accurate month-end close completion and high-quality financial reporting deliverables. The Accounting Manager also leads and develops accounting team members, strengthens internal controls, standardizes processes across business units, and coordinates effectively with accounting, finance, treasury, tax, operations, and leadership stakeholders.

Month-End Close and Financial Reporting Ownership
- Coordinate the month-end close calendar, task sequencing, deliverable ownership, and close communications to support timely and accurate completion of the accounting close.
- Prepare and review journal entries, ensuring entries are complete, accurate, properly supported, and recorded in the appropriate period.
- Review account reconciliations for quality, completeness, support, aging, resolution status, and compliance with accounting expectations.
- Review reporting packages and financial reporting deliverables for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and alignment with entity-level and consolidated reporting requirements.
- Perform and review balance sheet flux analysis, variance explanations, and account-level risk assessments to proactively identify and resolve accounting issues.
- Support entity-level and consolidated financial reporting across contract services, apparel sales, and franchised quick service restaurant operations.
- Oversee accounting for treasury-related activities, including cash accounting, bank reconciliations, daily cash reporting, debt management, and debt reporting.
- Oversee fixed asset accounting, including capitalization review, depreciation, disposals, asset tracking support, and related reconciliations.
- Oversee prepaid expense and accrual accounting, ensuring amounts are reviewed, supported, amortized or accrued appropriately, and evaluated for completeness.
- Oversee lease accounting, debt accounting, insurance-related accounting, and accounting for tax-related matters in coordination with internal stakeholders and external advisors as applicable.
- Support audit requests, schedules, reconciliations, explanations, and supporting documentation to facilitate efficient and well-controlled audit processes.
- Identify, communicate, and help resolve accounting risks, balance sheet exposure, reporting inconsistencies, and process gaps before they affect reporting accuracy or close timelines.
Team Leadership and Shared Services Oversight
- Supervise, coach, and develop multiple direct reports and provide oversight for indirect reports, ensuring assigned work is completed accurately, timely, and with appropriate review and accountability.
- Review team work product, provide feedback, resolve questions, and promote consistent execution of close, reconciliation, reporting, and accounting processes.
- Coordinate accounting activities across multiple business units and operating companies within a shared services environment.
- Serve as a cross-functional accounting liaison with finance, treasury, tax, operations, leadership stakeholders, and other departments to support timely issue resolution and accurate reporting.
- Support workload prioritization, development planning, team coverage, and process ownership to improve consistency, accountability, and knowledge transfer.
Process Improvement and Internal Controls
- Standardize accounting processes, close procedures, reconciliation expectations, and reporting practices across assigned entities and business lines.
- Execute and improve internal controls related to close, reconciliations, journal entries, cash, debt, fixed assets, leases, prepaids, accruals, insurance, tax-related accounting, and reporting deliverables.
- Document and maintain accounting procedures, desk-level instructions, review expectations, and process ownership to support consistency, audit readiness, and continuity.
- Recommend and implement practical process improvements that reduce rework, improve reporting quality, strengthen controls, and support more efficient close cycles.
Required Education, Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive private or public accounting experience.
- Moderate Excel and reporting skills sufficient to prepare, review, and analyze reconciliations, reporting packages, variance explanations, close schedules, and financial reporting deliverables.
- Ability to supervise staff, review work product, identify risks, improve processes, and coordinate accounting activities across multiple business units.
- Working knowledge of month-end close, journal entries, account reconciliations, balance sheet analysis, accruals, financial reporting, and internal control execution.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting accounting across multiple entities, business units, or operating companies.
- Experience in shared services accounting environments.
- ERP system experience (Microsoft Great Plains is the current system)
- Familiarity with treasury accounting, fixed assets, lease accounting, debt accounting, prepaid expenses, accruals, insurance-related accounting, tax-related accounting matters, and audit support.
- Ability to communicate accounting issues clearly to accounting, finance, treasury, tax, operations, and leadership stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to improve process consistency, strengthen review practices, and support internal control improvements.
