Job Summary (outline in one to three sentences the overall responsibilities of the role):
This position will design and develop Yamaha propellers for outboard motors. Evaluate propeller designs using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) techniques to ensure that the propeller design match performance and endurance specifications.
Essential Job Duties / Functions
Primary
· Design of outboard motor propeller geometry using CAD software (Solidworks, Rhino)
· Evaluation and optimization of propeller designs using CFD and FEA prior to prototyping and in water boat testing
· Development of design and test standards propellers
· Reverse engineering of prototype props to create designs and inspection of propellers to ensure samples match design
· Travel to test sites and on water testing boat testing
· Interpret knowledge of in-house experts to develop and modify of propeller designs
· Documentation of finalized propeller designs.
Secondary
· Factory support for the evaluation and approval of production parts
· Technical support for product planning and competitive analysis
· CFD and FEA analysis for other Yamaha projects (hull forms)
· Development of CFD/FEA center of excellence at YMUS

· Responsible for design decisions to achieve specification targets
· Responsible for project scopes, budgets, schedules for propeller projects
Qualifications (minimum and preferred experience, education, and/or certifications required to perform the role):
Required qualifications
§ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Navel Architecture
§ 5-10 years experience designing propellers and marine propulsion systems.
§ Proficient with Microsoft office tools, MatLab
Preferred qualifications
§ Master’s Degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Navel Architecture
§ 10 years experience designing propellers for high-speed outboard powerboats
§ Design optimization and automation techniques
§ Programming experience C/C++
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
§ Strong working knowledge of aerodynamic and hydrodynamic theory
§ Experience with CFD (Fluent) and FEA(Ansys) for analysis of marine propulsion systems.
§ CAD experience with SolidWorks, Rhino, or Siemens NX
Must perform all other duties outstandingly and consistent with guidelines, as assigned
