At Great West Casualty Company, our Claims team plays a critical role in delivering on our commitment to policyholders when they need us most. We are seeking an experienced Sr. Claims Specialist - Liability Bodily Injury to manage complex bodily injury and property damage claims, including litigated matters, from investigation through resolution.

This role offers the opportunity to handle challenging claims, collaborate with legal counsel, make sound coverage and liability decisions, and have a direct impact on claim outcomes and customer experience.

What You'll Do

As a Sr. Claims Specialist, you will independently investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve liability bodily injury and property damage claims while ensuring compliance with fair claims practices, company standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Claims Investigation & Resolution

• Investigate coverage, evaluate liability exposure, and establish appropriate claim reserves.
• Conduct thorough investigations involving bodily injury and property damage claims.
• Review evidence, medical documentation, witness statements, and accident reports to determine liability and claim value.
• Negotiate settlements with claimants, attorneys, and other involved parties.
• Develop and execute strategic action plans to move claims efficiently toward resolution.
• Continuously evaluate reserve adequacy and claim exposure throughout the life of the claim.
• Maintain timely and accurate claim documentation.
• Provide proactive communication to insureds and stakeholders throughout the claims process.
• Coordinate with independent adjusters, subrogation teams, underwriting, safety, and other business partners as needed.

Litigation Management

• Assign and collaborate with defense counsel on litigated files.
• Direct litigation strategy and evaluate opportunities for early resolution.
• Coordinate witness development and evidence gathering.
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, and trials as needed.
• Partner with attorneys and insureds to achieve favorable claim outcomes.

Technical Expertise & Continuous Learning

• Stay current on state negligence laws, bodily injury claim trends, and litigation developments.
• Maintain knowledge of medical terminology and injury evaluation practices.
• Obtain and maintain required state adjuster licenses.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and related claims experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of liability claims experience, including bodily injury claim handling.
• Strong knowledge of claim investigation, liability determination, negotiation, and settlement practices.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently while effectively managing a substantial claim inventory.
• Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
• Ability to travel as needed, including occasional overnight travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial auto, trucking, or complex casualty claims experience.
• Litigation management experience.
• CPCU designation or progress toward professional insurance certifications.
• Prior insurance industry continuing education coursework or Institutes training.
