About the role

Primary Purpose
Manages a section of grid operations engineering, developing strategies to maintain reliability and regulatory compliance. Oversees operational performance, resource allocation, and integration of new technologies into daily operations.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and executes contingency and emergency preparedness plans to respond effectively to grid disturbances and unforeseen events.
  • Implements energy management strategies and operational improvements to enhance grid efficiency and reliability.
  • Oversees real-time monitoring, analysis, and control of transmission and distribution systems to maintain stability and regulatory compliance.
  • Manages switching operations, safety documentation, and power restoration procedures following outages.
  • Leads reviews of power system events, ensuring closed-loop responses through analytics, resource coordination, and prioritization.
  • Develops and maintains operational procedures, including Operating Practices, to support safe and efficient grid operations.
  • Plans and manages short- and long-term replacement projects for regional distribution infrastructure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Education
  • Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Preferred Education
  • A related engineering degree from an ABET accredited program is preferred.
Required Experience
  • Typically requires 8 years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Ability to manage budgets and resources aligned to operational objectives.
  • Ability to translate operational strategy into executable engineering plans.
  • In-depth knowledge of grid operations engineering programs and execution.
  • Knowledge of safety, regulatory, and business considerations.
  • Skill in developing grid operations engineering talent.
  • Skill in managing professionals delivering complex technical work.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in the state of California is required.
