Position Title: Lift Maintenance Director

Reports To: VP of Mountain Operations

Department: Lift Maintenance

Classification: Year-Round, Full-Time

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Overview

Provides leadership and direction to the Lift, Tram, Gondola and Electrical Maintenance Departments. Coordinates with other Mountain Departments to provide safe uphill transportation for our guests and employees.

Job Duties

  • Oversee budget responsibility for Lift, Tram, Gondola, Electrical departments.
  • Develop and institute maintenance and safety programs (Tram, Gondola, Lifts and Electrical).
  • Assures safety standards are upheld.
  • Develop and modify all operational procedures as needed.
  • Monitor and assist in critical decision making for each department.
  • Examine and expedite personnel needs of the departments.
  • Oversee all maintenance positions and training of personnel.
  • Participate in continuing education remaining current with lift maintenance changes and safety requirements.
  • Current with all ANSI B77 standards.
  • Coordinate all lift estimates and construction.
  • Plan lift replacement and upgrades.

  • Experience in troubleshooting, maintaining, inspecting, and installing all lift control and telecommunications systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and managerial skills.
  • Well-rounded understanding of all phases of mountain operations.
  • Detailed and specific understanding of ski lift machinery.
  • Skilled in all levels of ropeway maintenance.
  • Proficient skier/snowboarder.
  • Ability to suspend oneself in an approved safety harness and remain suspended for periods of up to one hour.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 70 lbs.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 10 years lift experience required.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Specialized technical training preferred.
  • In an emergency, this role may be required to do the following:
  • Must be able to climb Lift, Gondola and Tram tower ladders. (ranging from 5 ft. to 150 ft.)
  • Must be able to stand and work on platforms, railings, structural steel beams, etc. for up to 3hrs. at a time.
  • Must be able to accomplish item #2 at heights ranging from 5 ft. to 200 ft. above the ground.
  • Ability to ride a snowmobile, A.T.V, and U.T.V to navigate rugged mountain terrain.
  • Must be able to access and ride moving carriers, such as work chairs, tram carriages, and/or other units attached to a lift system for maintaining line equipment.
  • Must be able to suspend oneself in an approved safety harness and remain suspended for periods of up to one hour.
  • Must be able to successfully self-evacuate from a stranded chair or the Aerial Tram.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs. (min.) on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to adequately drive a 4-wheel drive pick-up truck in mountain type terrain with trips of up to one hour.
  • Must be able to safely operate heavy equipment, snow grooming equipment, snowmobiles, and 4-wheel ATVs
  • Must be able to perform all of the above listed duties in extreme weather conditions.
