About the role
The Workforce Benefits Sales Internship Program is a comprehensive ten-week development experience designed to prepare emerging talent for future careers in insurance sales. Through a structured blend of industry education, hands-on project work, and cross-functional exposure, interns gain a deep understanding of the Benefits business, Symetra’s product portfolio, and the end-to-end sales lifecycle.
Interns are immersed in the fundamentals of Symetra’s employee benefits offerings while learning how Symetra's products are marketed, sold, underwritten, and supported. The program provides direct access to leaders across Sales, Underwriting, Marketing, Claims, RFP, and Account Management, enabling interns to develop a broad, integrated perspective of the business. In addition, interns receive mentoring, weekly coaching, and opportunities to shadow sales activities, including virtual broker interactions.
Core intern responsibilities include conducting market research, analyzing sales data, supporting sales initiatives, and contributing to strategic projects that enhance prospecting, sales enablement, and internal process optimization. Project experiences are designed to develop professional skills as well as real-world sales acumen, while encouraging cross-team collaboration and creative problem-solving.
By the conclusion of the program, interns will have gained practical on-the-job experience, a strong professional network, and actionable insight into the dynamics of Group Benefits insurance sales—all supporting Symetra’s mission of delivering value, transparency, and sustainability to customers nationwide.
