Associate Underwriter
About the role
The Associate Underwriter will evaluate and assess new business Automobile and Motorcycle submissions, review inforce and renewal policies to ensure rate integrity and eligibility. The ideal candidate must build successful working relationships with our agent partners while ensuring the agencies are in compliance with our underwriting guidelines and statutory requirements. The Associate Underwriter must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as he or she will work closely with other units of the Underwriting Operations and Customer Care.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Respond to and monitor underwriting referrals for endorsements, renewal questionnaires, claims and rate pursuit documents for Automobile and Motorcycle, for all states
- Underwrite Personal Automobile and Motorcycle new business submissions for all states to ensure quality and compliance with our underwriting guidelines, statutory requirements and investigating any aspect of the application that is questionable
- Make decisions regarding eligibility in accordance with our established guidelines, policies, procedures, and statutes
- Frequent participation in and development of various underwriting integrity projects
- Maintain a strong relationship with agents, provide a positive customer experience to our internal and external customers including Customer Care and Direct Sales.
- Communicate with agents, both written and verbally, regarding eligibility questions, quality of business or any service related issues
- Perform cancellation, denial and nonrenewal underwriting actions in compliance with underwriting guidelines and state specific administrative code and laws
QUALIFICATIONS
- Comply with all policies, practices and underwriting procedures.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Proficient personal computer skills including email, routine database activity and the Microsoft Office suite of products
- Ability to multi-task
- Perform other duties as assigned
- A four year college degree from an accredited college or university and one year P&C underwriting and agency management experience OR at least two years’ P&C underwriting experience.
- NJ Property and Casualty License is required
SALARY RANGE
The pay range for this position is $53,000 to $70,000 annually. Actual compensation will vary based on multiple factors, including employee knowledge and experience, role scope, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.
