Supervisory Land Law Examiner (Section Chief)
About the role
You will serve as a Supervisory Land Law Examiner (Section Chief) for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Alaska State Office, Division of Lands and Cadastral, in the Adjudication Branch. Section will be assigned at time of appointment at the discretion of the supervisor. Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) rate of 1.49% is authorized.
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Directs and supervises staff to ensure accurate land records, provides coaching and minor disciplinary actions, and elevates unresolved issues to higher-level management. Oversees adjudication and processing of statutory Alaska land conveyances and resolves complex, precedent-setting issues through coordination with internal and external stakeholders. Ensures timely, high-quality work by establishing performance plans, conducting evaluations, providing corrective guidance when needed, and setting short- and long-term priorities and schedules. Leads development and implementation of problem-solving strategies, innovates solutions to complex issues, and adjusts program processes in response to evolving legislative, procedural, or budgetary drivers. Anticipates stakeholder needs, strengthens adjudication efficiency, contributes to policy and standards development, and provides strategic program support through briefings, analyses, and recommendations.

This probationary or trial period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary or trial period, your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification, in writing, that your continued employment advances the public interest. This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period.
This position does not allow substituting education for experience.
