Credit Risk Review Director
The Credit Risk Review Director is responsible for managing the independent loan review function, providing credible challenge and objective appraisals of credit risk to management. The Commercial Loan Review Director, along with assigned staff, conducts loan reviews of individual loans/leases and borrowing relationships primarily within the bank's various commercial loan portfolio segments and Special Assets and report outcomes to senior leaders to ensure commercial business activities are appropriately aligned within the bank's stated risk appetite and risk rating methodology.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Responsible for the development, management, and execution of the bank’s loan review strategy. Using a risk-based assessment, identify appropriate coverages, scope, and targeted areas for periodic and ongoing examination. Coordinates efforts Internal Audit to increase effectiveness and minimize line of business impact where appropriate.
- Maintains functional knowledge of all credit-related aspects of commercial business lines managed and related policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Supervises departmental personnel including the provision of quality assessment of work assignments, completion of performance evaluations, directing training and continuing education, and monitoring of daily activities.
- Develops, maintains, edits, and obtains requisite approval as appropriate for all departmental policies and procedural documents to ensure compliance with regulatory guidance and alignment with accepted best practices.
- Responsible for timely responses to internal / external audits or regulatory examinations of the department directly or as related to commercial lines of business, including the coordination, review, and provision of related requested documentation.
- Responsible for timely reporting to senior management, executive committees, and the Board regarding review results, including but not limited to findings and remediation plans, risk rating and impairment analysis appropriateness, risk rating scorecard analysis and validation, underwriting and documentation quality, and adherence to stated guidelines, approval authorities and risk appetite.
- Responsible for managing the formulation, development, and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and strategies that drive increased effectiveness and supports increased credit quality, monitoring and risk awareness.
- Performs other duties and participates in special credit related projects as directed by the Chief Risk Officer.
- Provides an independent review of risks associated with new, modified, or expanded products and services associated with Commercial Lending activity.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in credit risk management
- Prior experience conducting large-scale commercial loan reviews
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in credit risk review
- Prior experience as a people leader or team lead for a credit risk review team
Educational Requirements
- University (Degree) Preferred
Work Experience
- 5+ Years Required; 7+ Years Preferred
