About the role
The Pro Bono Manager is responsible for assisting the Director of Pro Bono in managing the firm's pro bono program in all offices, including big-picture strategic decision-making, project development and administrative responsibilities. The Manager serves as liaison between the firm's pro bono department and Shook lawyers, administrative staff and clients, as well as the external pro bono community.
Assist the Pro Bono Partner to help develop, implement and execute strategies for the firm's pro bono program (including helping to manage the firm's pro bono committee).
Develop, implement and lead pro bono initiatives and projects in collaboration with the Pro Bono Partner, the firm's lawyers and community partner organizations.
Work with the Pro Bono Partner to represent the firm externally to the larger pro bono community -- particularly the Association of Pro Bono Counsel -- as well as legal services organizations, law schools, courts, bar associations and more. This includes traveling to attend conferences and other external meetings as needed.
Coordinate with the firm's Marketing department to develop and disseminate publicity for the pro bono program.
Assist the Pro Bono Partner with volunteer recruitment, skill assessments, training and staffing pro bono opportunities with attorneys and other professionals throughout the firm.
Guide pro bono teams through the new matter intake approval process and assist the Pro Bono Partner to assess the status of all pro bono matters, ensuring that matters are supervised appropriately, restaffing them as needed and closing them properly.
Develop and maintain pro bono training materials, resources, template forms, best practices for pro bono matters, including the pro bono internet and intranet site, and serve as a knowledge management resource for personnel working on matters. This includes coordinating live pro bono trainings and CLE events as needed.
Track data that pertains to the pro bono program, including attorney participation and hours, and prepare reports and summaries as needed.
Respond to internal and external inquiries related to the pro bono program, assisting with resolution of issues and/or forwarding to the appropriate person or department for handling.
Provide administrative support to the firm's pro bono team, including lawyers and paralegals responsible for appointed family court matters. This includes new matter intake, preparation of engagement letters and coordination of conflicts checks.
Facilitate the firm's sponsorship of community partner organizations, collaborating with lawyers and professional staff as needed to ensure attendance and marketing at sponsored events.
Liaise as needed with other firm legal and administrative departments, including but not limited to conflicts/new business committee, general counsel, practice managing partners, office managing partners, accounting, recruiting, diversity, professional development and office administrators.
Help coordinate the firm's community service efforts for lawyers and professional staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
