Job Description
We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Financial Planning Analyst to support our Enterprise Service areas within the Financial Planning and Analysis team. This position is ideal for individuals looking to launch their career in financial analysis within the insurance industry. This role will serve as a critical business partner to leadership, focusing on budgeting, operational efficiency, and performance analysis to enable data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate has strong communication skills combined with analytical ability utilizing Excel, a willingness to learn new systems, and the drive for continuous process improvement through technology advancements.
This is a hybrid role working partially in-office (Lincoln, NE) and partially from home.
What you do:
- Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
- Assist in the development of annual expense budgets, forecasts, and multi-year financial plans in partnership with back-office teams and senior analysts.
- Prepare monthly variance analysis of actuals vs. budget/forecast and help identify the drivers behind the results.
- Complete ad hoc analysis and reporting requests, with direction from senior team members, to support business initiatives and operational improvements.
- Operational Finance & Support:
- Support leadership and managers including purchase order tracking, invoice validation, accruals, and spend analysis.
- Coordinate with procurement and accounts payable teams to ensure timely processing and reconciliation of expenses.
- Process monthly corrections including journal entries and determine monthly accruals.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation in accordance with internal controls and audit requirements.
- Reporting & Insights:
- Prepare and distribute recurring financial reports and dashboards for Enterprise Services leadership.
- Provide actionable insights and recommendations to improve cost efficiency and optimize resource allocation.
- Build and maintain Excel-based reports and support Power BI dashboards used to track related expenditures.
- Develop working knowledge of Ameritas financial systems and embrace technology advancements, including AI, drive efficiencies and reporting improvements.
What you bring:
- Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Bachelor degree in a related field of study desired.
- 0-2+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis, financial operations, or business finance required. Relevant internship or co-op experience will be considered.
- Strong Excel skills; familiarity with data analysis and visualization best practices required.
- Foundational understanding of accounting and financial planning concepts, including budgeting and expense reporting required.
- Experience handling invoice coding, accrual process, and journal entries desired.
- Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills desired.
- High attention to detail with strong problem‑solving and continuous improvement mindset desired.
- Proficiency in Power BI, familiarity with data analysis, dashboard creation and report automation desired.
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Financials (Hyperion SmartView), Oracle ERP/EPB, or similar systems desired.
- Experience within an insurance or financial services organization desired.
