Purpose & Scope

The Lead, Market Access Data Strategy and Innovation is responsible for establishing and advancing the analytical, data, and strategic capabilities that support Market Access decision making. The role leads a team responsible for data strategy, business analytics, market access insights, system optimization, policy impact evaluation, and innovative contracting assessments. This position serves as a key partner to Contracts & Pricing, Market Access field and home office teams, Government Affairs & Policy, Finance, and Commercial leadership to ensure the organization possesses the data, tools, and insights needed to navigate a rapidly evolving access landscape and make informed strategic decisions.

The Lead is responsible for understanding the Market Access field and home office teams’ data needs of today and tomorrow and building the organizational capability, data assets, systems, processes, and team, and capabilities to deliver those analytics and insights.  The role monitors emerging landscape changes and enables the pricing and contracting strategy and capabilities for future success.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic direction and evolution of Market Access data tools and systems, establishing the technology roadmap and driving innovation, governance, process optimization, and automation to deliver scalable, compliant solutions that improve visibility into contract performance, market access trends, revenue management outcomes, and strategic growth opportunities; systems in scope include revenue management systems (Model N at present), Patient Support Program data and reporting tools, formulary data and pull through tools, trade and distribution data and reporting tools, and the state price transparency dashboard.
  • Develop and lead a high performing team responsible for developing analytical talent, creating analytical frameworks, prioritizing resources, translating business strategy into team objectives.
  • Leverage data analytics to generate actionable insights and data-driven recommendations around program optimization, customer engagement strategy, investment decisions, and brand strategies.
  • Provide strategic leadership for U.S. pricing operations, including launch and inline product pricing, Wholesale Acquisition Cost (WAC) approvals, pricing governance, NDC lifecycle management, and drug pricing compendia communications, ensuring cross-functional alignment, execution of pricing-related business processes, and accurate dissemination of pricing and product information.
  • Ensure compliance with state price transparency regulations and drug pricing reporting requirements by overseeing reporting submissions, governance processes, regulatory monitoring, and alignment with Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance stakeholders.
  • Oversee the procurement, budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and return-on-investment evaluation of pharmacy, GPO, and other commercial data assets, ensuring alignment of investments with organizational priorities and business objectives.
  • Partner with Contracts & Pricing, Commercial Operations, DigitalX, Insights & Analytics, Account Engagement, Finance, Legal, Regulatory, and external partners to drive integration, optimization, and continuous improvement of data, systems, and revenue management capabilities; overcome structural silos to ensure partnership and knowledge-sharing
  • Foster a culture of innovation and cross-functional collaboration while ensuring adherence to enterprise governance, compliance requirements, and evolving healthcare policy and regulatory expectations
  • Lead development of analytical frameworks and future-state market assessments to evaluate emerging policies and business models and inform long-term Market Access strategy; Continually assess the impact of evolving payer, provider, patient, distributor, legal, and regulatory environments to optimize patient access and business outcomes

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum of 10 years prior experience in data analysis, reporting, and/or systems design and support in pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and create cross functional alignment; Track record of developing others, change management and leading a team in implementing strategic and innovative solutions
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Deep analytics fluency, continuously monitors insights, and has a test-and-learn, iterative mindset
  • Systems thinking skills; ability to anticipate how proposed changes could have second and third order downstream effects
  • Demonstrated ability to assimilate and present complex information to higher level management and contribute to high level discussions; Ability to produce board ready presentation material
  • Strong collaboration skills with the demonstrated ability to gather key stakeholder feedback and gain executive alignment; Ability to lead initiatives in a highly matrixed environment and gain buy-in across multiple groups across Astellas that may have different points of view
  • Demonstrated knowledge of US access, reimbursement, and pricing landscape for pharmaceutical products (both Pharmacy and Medical reimbursement). Includes deep knowledge of commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, other government, and specialty segments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree/Education in a related discipline
  • Experience with Qlik applications
  • Experience working in Government Pricing, government channel forecasting and accruals, or analyzing government policy pertaining to pricing and contracting strategies, especially the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), Most Favored Nation (MFN) policies, PBM reforms, and 340B, among others

Salary Range

$XXXXXX-XXXXXX (Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and organizational equity considerations.)
