A four (4) year college degree or two (2) years prior work experience with the mentally retarded and physically handicapped in a similar setting is required, or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Exercises good judgment in arriving at decisions. Is suitably attired and well-groomed. Ability to establish and maintain proper rapport with other agencies, parents, staff and the individuals in our care. Ability to delegate authority and train personnel. Maintains poise and emotional stability in full range of his/her professional activities. Uses language effectively in dealing with all persons or groups. Thinks well when faced with an unexpected or disturbing turn of events in any situation. Knowledge of current policies and procedures of the facility. Knowledge of mental retardation as applied to individual programs. Ability to screen, interview and orient applicants. Ability to maintain all necessary records. Knowledge and ability to implement proper practices and techniques of supervision. Must be flexible and organized.

Ability to prepare clear and concise reports and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the individuals in our care, staff and other agency personnel at all levels. Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of subordinate staff. Ability to make sound decisions and think analytically. Ability to exercise judgment in interpreting and implementing policies and procedures
