About the role
Under the supervision of the OR Nurse Manager, surgeons, and anesthesiologists, and in accordance with approved policies and procedures, the Operating Room Registered Nurse provides high-quality nursing care to promote patient safety, comfort, and optimal clinical outcomes. The RN maintains patient confidentiality, uses the nursing process and professional nursing standards to deliver safe and effective care, and provides ongoing education to patients and their families throughout the perioperative continuum. The RN is responsible for maintaining current clinical knowledge and competency through continuing education, departmental in-services, and self-development activities. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, the RN collaborates closely with clinical staff and providers to ensure coordinated, patient-centered care.
Education:
Minimum: Graduate of accredited school of professional nursing.
Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Nursing
License/
Certifications:
License: Current NYS license.
Certifications: BLS & ACLS, PALS certifications required through the RQI system during clinical oriention. Coronary Care obtiained within six months of hire.
Preferred: CNOR Certification recommended within 2 years
Experience:
Minimum: One-year of acute care experience. Ability to perform technical aspects of position. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Preferred: One-year of critical care experience, scrub nurse experience, AORN.
Other:
Minimum: The Operating Room Registered Nurse must be able to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet required deadlines while promoting teamwork through positive role modeling. The role requires familiarity with Joint Commission requirements and consistent adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards. Strong leadership, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills are essential. The RN must demonstrate professionalism and courtesy when interacting with patients, families, staff, and the public. Occasional on-call shifts may be required.
Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office products including word, excel and power point.
