About the role

Position Summary: 

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for facility infection prevention and control programs. This role monitors infection data, trains staff on infection control practices, ensures compliance with CMS/state requirements, and supports resident safety and quality of care. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop, implement, and monitor infection prevention and control program.
  • Collect, analyze, and report infection surveillance data to leadership.
  • Provide staff education and competency validation on infection control practices.
  • Conduct facility rounds to ensure compliance with hand hygiene, PPE, and isolation protocols.
  • Investigate infection outbreaks and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team on infection-related issues and survey readiness.

Skills & Competencies 

  • Knowledge of infection control practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong data collection, analysis, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to educate, train, and mentor staff effectively.
  • Organizational and communication abilities.

Required: 

  • Current RN license in Michigan.
  • Infection Preventionist training (per CMS requirement).

Preferred: 

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
  • Experience in long-term care infection prevention programs.
