Recreation Fee Technician
About the role
You will serve as a Recreation Fee Technician with National Park Service. This position is located in the Interpretation, Education, and Visitor Services Division section of Dinosaur National Monument. GS-06 Salary: $45,409 (Step 01) to $59,031 (Step 10). GS-07 Salary: $50,460 (Step 01) to $65,599 (Step 10). First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Serves as a front-line, uniformed representative of the NPS, answering visitor questions and explaining the area's recreational opportunities, including NPS interpretive services, concession operated services, campground availability, hiking trails, etc. Performs assignments in accordance with all NPS and U.S. Treasury regulations governing the handling of government funds. Operates an electronic cash register, computer, or Point of Sale (POS) system to conduct financial transactions to include performing opening and closing functions and issuing entrance receipts, tour tickets, permits, etc. Reviews and verifies the accuracy of operating manuals and/or standard operating procedures for the implementation of new and existing system designs and/or modifications. Provides assistance to the fee supervisor and/or higher-level fee managers in the implementation of new fee systems and procedures at the local level. Provides informal and formal training and education to employees, partners, volunteers, interns, cooperating association representatives, etc. regarding automated and non-automated fee processes, systems, software programs, tools, etc. Tests reservation system functionality in automated reservation systems such as Recreation.gov and report findings as appropriate to include approving or denying formal refund requests submitted by the public in the system. Serves as a technical authority for the resolution of especially difficult or sensitive problems associated with the collection, remittance, and deposit of fee revenue and donations. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level. Physical Demands/Work Environment: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue, wildland firefighting, and other emergency response duties. This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, fee office, remit office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.

You are required to complete training, obtain and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority Probationary Period: As a condition of employment for accepting this position, you may be required to serve a 1-year probationary period to evaluate your fitness and whether your continuation of employment advances the public interest. This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest, meet the organization goals and mission of the agency, and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the service. In determining if your employment advances the public interest, the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service. Under applicable law, the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies, in writing, that the individual's employment should continue and that their appointment should be finalized. In the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary or trial period, such appointments are terminated.
