About the role
The Data Acquisition Engineer is responsible for acquiring, analyzing, and interpreting vehicle test data related to powertrain, chassis, and durability performance. The role combines hands-on vehicle testing, instrumentation, diagnostics, root cause analysis, and engineering data analysis to support vehicle development, simulation, modeling, and component validation activities. The successful candidate will have a passion for automotive engineering and vehicle testing, with hands-on exposure to data acquisition, instrumentation, and data analysis. They will be comfortable working in a laboratory and vehicle test environment, collecting high-quality data, troubleshooting instrumentation, and supporting durability and development programs through accurate testing and analysis.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform powertrain and chassis data acquisitions on test vehicles.
- Conduct hands-on vehicle evaluations, troubleshooting, and root cause investigations.
- Install, configure, and utilize diagnostic tools, sensors, and instrumentation.
- Collect, reduce, validate, and analyze vehicle test data.
- Ensure data quality and fidelity for engineering decision-making.
- Generate technical reports and document findings.
- Present results and recommendations to engineering teams and leadership.
- Coordinate activities with drivers, mechanics, technicians, and test personnel.
- Conduct competitive vehicle benchmarking and performance comparisons.
- Support real-time simulation, vehicle modeling, and component-level testing through data collection and reduction activities.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related degree field
- Entry-level candidates will be considered
- Exposure to automotive testing, instrumentation, or laboratory environments
- One or more years of experience in vehicle road load data acquisition and measurement activities
- Familiarity with measuring vehicle loads, displacements, accelerations, pressures, and related physical parameters
- Experience working with instrumentation and sensors, including accelerometers, displacement transducers, load cells, pressure transducers, or similar devices
- Ability to review and validate collected test data to ensure accuracy and data integrity
- Basic understanding of durability testing and data analysis methodologies
- Experience with Wheel Force Transducers (WFTs) is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Engineering
- Experience designing, developing, or integrating transducers and instrumentation systems.
- Hands-on experience with vehicle road load data acquisition systems.
- Working knowledge of vehicle chassis, suspension, driveline, and related vehicle systems.
- Experience using nCode or similar engineering data analysis software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex test data.
