Assistant Chief Engineer High Voltage Battery Systems
About the role
Position Summary:
The Assistant Chief Engineer (ACE) for High Voltage Battery Systems (HVBS) is the technical owner and leader for assigned make BEV battery programs, responsible for end-to-end delivery of battery system functional objectives, requirements, and technical execution. This role serves as the primary technical interface between the HVBS organization and key stakeholders, including Vehicle Integration, Powertrain Integration, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Electrical Engineering Core, and Electrification teams. The ACE drives technical excellence, ensures alignment to program targets, and leads cross-functional teams to deliver robust, validated battery systems on time and within cost.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Ownership
- Serve as final decision authority on tradeoffs involving function, performance, timing, and cost
- Define, communicate, and enforce adherence to battery system functional objectives and requirements
- Decompose propulsion system objectives into battery component-level requirements
- Provide technical direction and governance, including bulletins and engineering standards
Program Execution & Delivery
- Own the battery system technical requirements document
- Lead execution of simulation, testing, and validation plans across all program phases
- Review and approve: HVBS M-table for functional objective compliance; System and component DVP&R; Validation results and deviation requests
- Ensure timely issue resolution, prioritization, and closure across all engineering activities
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as the primary HVBS technical interface to: Vehicle & Powertrain Integration; Manufacturing; Purchasing; Electrical Engineering Core; Electrification teams
- Co-lead development with HW/SW Design Responsible Engineers (DREs) and Controls teams
- Drive cross-functional accountability through the Product Release Center (PRC)
Governance, Reviews & Decision-Making
- Represent HVBS in: Executive management reviews and Propulsion System Tech Table
- Lead: Battery Tech Table meetings; Battery Board Reviews; Functional Management (FM) meetings
- Provide technical disposition for: CCDs, CNs, IAAs and PERs
Risk Management & Compliance
- Develop and maintain technical risk assessments
- Enforce use of Risk Mitigation Slides (RMS) by PRC
- Ensure validation evidence supports technical sign-offs or approved deviations
Product Development & Validation
- Lead and participate in: Prototype build planning; Bench, vehicle, and HIL testing; Design reviews and pre-prototype readiness
- Oversee failure analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective actions
- Ensure designs meet: Customer requirements; Functional performance targets; Manufacturability and assembly robustness
Manufacturing & Launch Support
- Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure defect-free production readiness
- Support vehicle assembly plant launches
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including: Technical cost reduction; Standardization and reuse of proven components
Supplier & Integration Support
- Support supplier selection and technical reviews
- Coordinate with vehicle teams on packaging studies and integration constraints
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant technical engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience in High Voltage Battery Systems (HVBS)
- Working knowledge of DFMEA and DVP&R development and execution
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive technical issue resolution
- Proven ability to operate as a self-motivated leader and independent decision-maker
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present technical information at all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related field
- Experience leading or managing large, cross-functional engineering teams
- Hands-on experience in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of HVBS failures
- Experience with Battery Management Systems (BMS), including both software and hardware aspects

- Proven ability to drive accountability and execution under tight timelines
- Highly collaborative with outstanding teamwork and stakeholder engagement
