James A. Haley Veterans' Hospital is a teaching hospital, with a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. Surgical Services is equipped 10 active main ORs and 2 Urology ORs. JAHVA offers 12 operative sub specialties including: ophthalmology, vascular/endovascular general surgery, plastics, GYN, neurosurgery, orthopedics, podiatry, ENT, urology, oral/facial, and cardiothoracic, providing complex cases such as open heart surgery.

Duties / Responsibilities The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) functions as an integral member of the surgical team. The OR-RN interfaces with patients, surgeons, and anesthesia staff in the surgical setting. The OR-RN implements the pre-operative plan of care, demonstrating knowledge of the responsibilities of the RN pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively. Duties include but are not limited to: Able to scrub and circulate surgical procedures independently Responsible for supervising care given and services rendered in the Operating Room by other professional and non-professional staff Responsible for maintenance, care, and use of equipment; applying principles of asepsis, therapeutic, and technical knowledge to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff Assists in orientation of rotating surgical and anesthesia residents and other nursing staff Consistently documents nursing interventions and provides patient and family teaching Participates in in-services, journal club presentations, and Performance Improvement (PI) activities Participates in in-services, journal club presentations, and Total Quality Improvement (TQI) activities Responsible for maintenance, care, and use of equipment used, applying principles of asepsis, therapeutic, and technical knowledge to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff(Some duties are repeated in the source posting.)
