About the role

Position Summary
The Senior Clinical Applications Analyst supports, maintains, and improves the clinical information systems that nursing, medical, and ancillary clinical staff rely on every day. Sitting at the intersection of clinical practice and information technology, this role resolves escalated application issues, administers and upgrades clinical systems, translates clinical workflow needs into system requirements, and leads analyst work on enterprise projects.

This is a senior individual contributor role. The successful candidate brings deep hands-on experience with clinical systems, working knowledge of how care is actually delivered at the bedside, and the judgment to work independently across competing priorities.

Specific Responsibilities:

Application Support and Operations (approximately 40%)

* Serve as Level 2 and Level 3 support for nursing, medical, and clinical end users, resolving escalated incidents and service requests within established service levels.
* Diagnose root cause of application issues, coordinate resolution with vendors and internal teams, and communicate status to affected clinical areas.
* Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation, responding to urgent and patient-impacting issues outside standard business hours.
* Support downtime and business continuity procedures, including planned downtime coordination and post-downtime recovery.
* Maintain accurate incident, problem, and change records in ServiceNow.

System Administration and Release Management (approximately 20%)

* Perform routine system administration for assigned clinical applications, including security and role-based access configuration, master file and dictionary maintenance, and interface monitoring.
* Plan, test, and coordinate application updates, patches, and version upgrades in partnership with vendors, infrastructure, and clinical stakeholders.
* Execute testing and quality assurance for both vendor-delivered and internally developed changes, including functional, integrated, and regression testing.
* Follow established change control procedures and support audit and compliance requirements, including HIPAA safeguards for protected health information.

Analysis and Project Delivery (approximately 25%)

* Lead the analyst workstream on large-scale clinical system implementations, optimizations, and integrations.
* Work directly with clinical end users to elicit requirements, define software specifications, and identify workflow improvement opportunities.
* Provide clinical review of proposed designs and builds to ensure usability and safe, practical fit with frontline workflow.
* Evaluate current-state information systems and recommend improvements to data flow, system performance, and interdepartmental communication.

Education, Documentation, and Collaboration (approximately 15%)

* Document system configurations, support procedures, workflows, and administration activities so that knowledge is transferable across the team.
* Identify end-user education needs and partner with clinical operations and training teams to design and deliver targeted education.
* Create project documentation, test plans, reports, and presentations for technical and clinical audiences as needed.
* Coordinate work with other IT functions (infrastructure, integration, security, data and analytics) and with organizational departments across facilities.
* Escalate risks, resource constraints, and emerging issues to leadership in a timely and actionable way.
* Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:
Required

* Bachelor's degree in health informatics, information systems, nursing, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
* Minimum of five (5) years of total experience supporting, analyzing, or administering clinical information systems, of which at least three (3) years were in a systems or application analyst capacity.
* Minimum of two (2) years working within a healthcare delivery environment.
* Hands-on experience with Avatar NX in a build / support / administration capacity.
* Demonstrated experience with testing and quality assurance, change control, and structured troubleshooting methodology.
* Working knowledge of clinical practice and workflows in an acute care or ambulatory setting.
* Availability to participate in an on-call rotation and to support scheduled after-hours maintenance activities.

Preferred

* Active or prior clinical licensure or credential (RN, RRT, RPh, PT, LPN, or similar), or prior direct patient care experience.
* Experience leading projects and directing the work of others without formal supervisory authority.
* Experience supporting internally developed or third-party clinical applications alongside a core EHR.
* Working knowledge of project management methodology and system performance metrics.
* SQL or report-writing capability sufficient to investigate data issues and validate system behavior.

Competencies:

* Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, including the capacity to work through ambiguous, intermittent, or multi-system issues.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to clinicians and clinical concepts to technologists.
* Professional demeanor and the interpersonal skill to work credibly with staff at all levels, from bedside nurses to executive leadership.
* Ability to work independently, own projects end to end, and manage multiple concurrent priorities with minimal supervision.
* Sound judgment about clinical risk, particularly when weighing speed of resolution against patient safety.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to documentation quality.
