About the role

We are seeking a Transportation/Routing Supervisor to join our team at the Minneapolis Milk Plant in Minneapolis, MN. In this key leadership role, you will oversee the scheduling and dispatch of drivers to ensure products are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time. You will play a critical role in optimizing transportation operations, resolving routing and delivery challenges, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet customer expectations. This position offers the opportunity to lead by example, support team development, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced distribution environment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Schedule and dispatch daily loads/shipments (raw milk, products/goods) to meet customer needs and optimize routes to reduce costs and elevate overall efficiency.
  • Dispatch approved drivers to appropriate loads based on availability, capacity, and delivery deadlines; confirm load date/time and delivery date/time.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between drivers, customers, and internal Communicate delivery instructions, customer changes, address issues, and provide updates on shipment status.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with carriers and drivers to understand their needs, operating schedules, and physical limitations while working to inform them of the needs of our customers and distribution system.
  • Be familiar with contracts established with each customer regarding volumes and quantities, plant operating schedules, warehouse schedules, and all special requirements or circumstances.
  • Monitor milk movements to ensure all producers remain qualified during qualifying months and between Federal Maximize diversions and transportation credits where applicable (applicable to raw milk).
  • Assemble orders that make up outgoing Maximize carrier load weights and volume by coordinating orders with other company depots, plants, warehouses, etc.
  • Monitor secondary freight costs and work to minimize those costs when scheduling
  • Monitor the progress of deliveries from start/load assembly to delivery to the Use tracking systems to monitor the location and status of trucks and shipments. Address any delays or issues promptly.
  • Handle emergencies and unforeseen events such as accidents, traffic delays, or equipment Coordinate with drivers and others to find quick and effective solutions.
  • Ensure all dispatch activities comply with federal and state transportation Keep up-to-date with changes in laws and regulations affecting the trucking and/or dairy industry.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns regarding delivery times, delays, and other related Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction through effective communication and problem resolution.
  • Provide drivers with necessary information and support to perform their duties Assist with directions, load information, and other logistical details.
  • Match proof of deliveries and approval of carrier Validate all charges.
  • Work with other groups to resolve issues that arise with the incoming manifests matching the dispatch
  • Input and maintain accurate records and data in systems, spreadsheets, (customer proof of delivery, bills of lading files, receiving credits, customer receipts, delivery schedules carrier/hauler info, costs, and other relevant data).
  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports.
  • Seek and negotiate the lowest carrier costs per set authority
  • May handle the sale/disposal of distressed loads and track on the rejected load database. Communicate and maintain accurate and timely records of distressed loads including quality results, disposition, and/or sale
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 to 4 years of dispatching, logistics, transportation, or related.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and the ability to effectively utilize warehouse management, inventory, and other company computer systems to support daily operations and reporting.
  • Knowledge of the geographic region being supported and logistics and transportation regulations.
  • Analyze and decide on different logistical movements and adjustments with the intent to optimize.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals.
  • Problem solve difficult or uncommon issues and make quick decisions under pressure while remaining calm and composed.
