Senior Interviewer - 2026-27

Senior interviewers have the unique opportunity to shape the future of Grinnell College by interviewing prospective Grinnellians, among many other duties. Senior interviewers conduct evaluative interviews with prospective applicants/students, complete written evaluations of each student interviewed, and assist in various forms of recruitment and office-related duties, including but not limited to:

• co-leading admission information sessions
• serving on panels for admission events (both in person and online)
• participating in targeted outreach or marketing (including print and/or online media, and social media platforms), through both the creation and editing of content and monitoring/moderating of various social media platforms
• assisting with reception desk duties assisting with the review of admission marketing materials and providing feedback as needed
• assisting with database and application management
• assembling packets for mailings
• helping to maintain tidy public areas and workspaces in the admission workspace
• responding to college related questions via phone, email, video, and social media
• assisting with other office work as needed.

Senior interviewers will also cross-train with our tour guide coordinators and complete tour guide training. They will be expected to assist with tours on an as-needed basis. Additionally, there will be opportunities to work for Admission during major breaks.

Training days are mandatory and typically encompass three full days. Attendance for each designated day is required with very limited exception. These mandatory training days will be identified with offers of employment.

Interested students may apply for this position during their junior year; this position is only available to seniors.

Location: Admission and Student Financial Services Building (1227 Park St), 1st Floor

Hours & Schedule Flexibility: Students work a maximum of 10 hours a week. Typically, students are scheduled for in-office work approximately 7 hours each Monday - Friday. They also have up to three hours of flextime each week which they may use to create social media content, assist with virtual programming, and/or conduct virtual interviews on evenings and weekends. Students will also be scheduled for rotating Saturday morning shifts.

Number of Positions: 10-14 senior interviewers per year.

Supervisors: Assistant Director of Admission and Coordinator of Campus Visits, Admission Counselor

Level of Responsibility/Autonomy: HIGH.

Most full-time admission counselors travel for much of the fall and are away from the office; as a result, senior interviewers have a high level of responsibility because they are the “face” of Grinnell to prospective students and families. Senior interviewers are responsible for presenting accurate information about the academic and co-curricular strengths of Grinnell, and they are expected to be capable of answering the questions of prospective students and their families.

Applicants must be rising seniors (class of 2027). 

Strong applicants should be active members of the campus community, must be collegial and eager to interact with visitors throughout their stay on campus, and be students in good academic standing. Strong applicants should also be articulate, good listeners, and interested in meeting with prospective students and their families and sharing their knowledge of and experiences related to Grinnell.
